About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Vecima Expands PON Portfolio with Launch of its Entra® EXS1610 All-PON™ 10G Solution

  • New Entra® EXS1610 All-PON 10G solution supports XGS-PON, GPON, 10G-EPON, and EPON technologies
  • Purpose-built platform enables service providers to shorten time to market for fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) solutions and future-proof their access networks
  • Visit Vecima at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, September 20-22, Booth #7085

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX: VCM) today announced the official launch of its Entra® EXS1610 All-PON 10G solution. The EXS1610 supports a variety of widely deployed PON standards, including XGS-PON, GPON, 10G-EPON, and EPON. Combo PON support is also included for simultaneous support of XGS-PON and GPON.

Named by Dell’Oro Group as the market share leader for Remote Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), Vecima expands its Fiber Access portfolio with a flexible, compact, and powerful shelf-based platform that supports all predominantly deployed Passive Optical Network (PON) variants.

Service providers can shorten time to market, deliver fiber broadband services faster, and support key deployment use cases, including greenfield, hot-spot brownfields, rural, hybrid fiber coax (HFC) overbuild, footprint extension, and hub collapse with the Vecima PON solution portfolio.

The Vecima Entra EXS1610 All-PON shelf is a key solution component of Vecima’s industry-leading Unified Access product portfolio that allows customers to selectively deploy both Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) (Remote PHY, Remote MACPHY) and FTTP in any market or hub deployment, allowing maximum flexibility for customers to deploy both Cable Access and Fiber Access solutions based on specific subscriber need.

The Vecima EXS1610 provides technically robust features for today’s Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service providers:

  • 16 x PON ports: XGS-PON/GPON (Combo PON) and 1G/10G-EPON
  • Uplink optics: 2 x 100/40G & 2 x 25/10G with broad third-party optics support
  • Multi-vendor optical network terminal (ONT) interoperability
  • 300mm depth designed for ETSI-rack
  • 1+1 AC or DC power redundancy
  • Temperature-hardened shelf for OSP deployments

In addition to an industry-leading platform feature set, Vecima provides best-in-class support for third-party ONTs through a comprehensive ONT/ONU (optical network unit) interoperability program. This ensures no single PON vendor lock-in to specific customer premises equipment (CPE) and enables industry-leading investment protection. New ONT/ONU vendors are added regularly based on industry standards.

“The Entra EXS1610 All-PON Shelf is an extension of Vecima’s award-winning and market-leading PON solution offerings,” said Vijay Raman, Vice President of Fiber Access Product Line Management at Vecima. “We believe our open and flexible support of multiple PON variants, and our shelf and node platforms offer a variety of fiber-to-the-premises deployment options for our existing and future customers.”

To schedule a demonstration of the Entra® EXS1610 All-PON Shelf, visit Vecima Networks at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2022, September 20-22, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Booth #7085 or contact Vecima at sales@vecima.com.

The Vecima Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) product portfolio, recently recognized by the Dell’Oro Group as the North America market share leader in Remote MACPHY and 10G-EPON Remote OLT solutions, is deployed by operators around the world. With full support for all next-generation cable access technologies, high-value legacy services, and proven industry-leading interoperability, the networks of tomorrow are deployable today without compromise.
