About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Vecima to Demonstrate Flexible Broadband Access Networks and Next-generation Video Delivery at SCTE® Cable-Tec Expo 2023

  • Entra® ERM3 Remote PHY Device interoperates with vCMTS and third-party CCAP cores to provide the framework for the future of broadband

  • MediaScale™ Streaming solutions for targeted advertising and Open Caching help operators increase revenue and monetize OTT traffic

  • Visit Vecima at Expo 2023, October 16-19, Booth 1331

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX: VCM) will showcase broadband and IPTV industry leadership at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2023, highlighting its Entra® Unified Access portfolio, which enables operators to deploy both Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) and Passive Optical Networking (PON) in any market or hub.

The company will also demonstrate MediaScale™ Streaming solutions, including Open CDN™ which enables Service Providers to generate incremental revenue and optimize capacity in their networks by caching third-party video content directly within their own networks, all while improving quality of experience for their end users.

Technologies on Display

Entra® ERM3 Remote PHY Device (RPD): Widely interoperable with vCMTS and third-party CCAP cores, the ERM3 easily upgrades legacy analog HFC nodes to DAA, reducing installation time and lowering operating costs while dramatically increasing broadband capacity. Its unique form factor and features highlight Vecima’s open and interoperable approach to hardware and software. Vecima recently announced that Charter Communications selected the ERM3 to enable 10G services over HFC networks. The ERM3 also recently obtained a prestigious ‘5-Diamonds’ in the 2023 BTR Diamond Technology Reviews.

Entra® Access Nodes: Vecima’s “Forever Nodes” protect operators’ investment in technology-forward networks as they prepare for DOCSIS® 4.0, 1.8 GHz cable access, and advanced passive-optical network (PON) deployments. Fully interoperable and upgradable, Vecima’s Entra Access Nodes pave the way to multi-gigabit, symmetrical broadband services.

Flexible PON: Hardened, shelf-based OLTs (Optical Line Terminals) and Remote OLTs available from Vecima allow rapid, cost-effective deployment of symmetrical multi-gigabit speeds now, while preparing the access network for 50G fiber to the premises and beyond. A unified provisioning platform takes the learning curve out of PON for operators’ technical experts.

Internet for All: Vecima recently announced that it intends to expand manufacturing options, including U.S. manufacturing, for its Entra® product line to align with the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. Vecima’s 10G PON portfolio has achieved strong market adoption—in March 2023, the Dell’Oro Group named Vecima the global market share leader in both Remote MACPHY and Remote OLT solutions.

Targeted advertising: Service Providers get control over content with the MediaScale Dynamic Content solution which supports dynamic targeted advertising, content rights management and blackouts. By adjusting content at the edge of the network, operators can deliver more efficient, personalized video content and capture opportunities to monetize that content with targeted, higher-value ads.

MediaScale Open CDN™ allows service providers to monetize the terabytes of internet traffic delivered free of charge today and prepare their networks for the petabytes of content yet to come as streaming video consumption continues to rise. The subscriber gets an improved viewing experience, without the headaches associated with congested networks that lead to rebuffering and poor video quality.

TruLive™ Streaming: For live programming, especially sports broadcasts, Vecima’s solution offers scalability, reliability, and quality with a bundle of products and services that are used by operators around the world to manage explosive demand while maintaining pristine video streaming.
