About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Pepper Launches Send Help Security Feature Enabling Users to Get Help When They Need It

Consumer IoT PaaS leader expands Premium service plan with the Send Help home security feature allowing users to request emergency assistance for fire, medical, or police.

Pepper, a U.S.-based consumer IoT Platform as a Service (PaaS), has announced a new security feature, Send Help, that will be available through the Premium service plan for $12.99 per month or $129.99 annually.

By upgrading to the Premium plan, users will be able to gain access to the following benefits:

  • Get help anytime, anywhere

Users can access the new Send Help security feature 24/7 and quickly connect with agents for emergency assistance.
  • Download, share and rewatch video clips

Users can download, share and access cloud recordings for up to 30 days.
  • Add cameras at no additional cost

Users can add up to 10 cameras on the plan
  • Be alerted when it counts

Users can enable person, animal, and vehicle detection.
  • Quickly respond to or dismiss alerts

Users can receive notifications with image and GIF previews from their recordings.

According to research from Parks Associates, 50% of all security system sales in the past year were DIY solutions and if consumer interests hold, DIY solutions will represent the majority of the market.

With the increased demand for security, the Premium plan with Send Help provides a low-cost option for smart home users looking for expanded protection without the price tag of more advanced home security systems. Even a user with a single camera can take advantage of this new feature.

With the push of a button, users can request help from their camera’s live view in the app or directly from a notification. After confirming the emergency via text or call, an agent will request dispatch for relevant emergency services. For expanded security, users can utilize the siren and scene features to turn on all of their camera sirens during an emergency situation.

“We’re excited to offer our customers this new security feature to enhance their connected home experience,” said Sol Hedaya, Category Manager at Merkury Innovations. “The Pepper platform has not only provided a single app experience for our smart home products but allows us to bring best-in-class services to our customers.”

"Home security doesn’t have to be limited to costly systems,” said Scott Ford, CEO at Pepper “We're thrilled to be able to offer a more accessible security feature on our platform for users – whether they have ten cameras or one.”

Pepper’s PaaS helps businesses develop, manage and monetize connected solutions. From device manufacturers to insurance carriers, Pepper partners with companies providing white labeled solutions to break down barriers for consumer IoT and accelerate speed to market.
