About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Comparably Reveals 2023 Best Places to Work and Best CEOs According to Millions of Employee Ratings

7th Annual List Recognizes Adobe, ADP, Boston Consulting Group, Nextdoor, Netflix, Topgolf, Uber, and Workday Among Top-Ranked Companies and CEOs

Best Companies According to Women and Employees of Color Also Unveiled

Comparably (now a ZoomInfo company) – a leading workplace culture and corporate brand reputation platform – announced the 2023 winners for Best CEOs, Best Company Culture, Best Companies for Women, and Best Companies for Diversity in its 7th Annual Best Places to Work series.

With the most comprehensive data on what it’s like to work at organizations – based on gender, ethnicity, age, experience, title, industry, location, education, and company size – the site has accumulated 20 million ratings on 70,000 U.S. & Canadian companies. This set of categories is based on anonymous employee feedback to more than 50 data-driven questions in nearly 20 core culture metrics within the past year. Winners are segmented by large and SMB companies.

“When searching for a great place to work in 2024, it is important to pick one that is committed to providing a positive workplace culture for all employees," said Chad Herring, CHRO of ZoomInfo (Comparably's parent company). "The top-rated organizations and leaders on this year's 7th annual list have three key things in common. They are transparent about their business decisions, value their employees, and remain hyper-focused on their mission, vision and values."

For the first time since the launch of Comparably Awards in 2017, half of the Top 10 Best CEOs from large companies are women and more than 25 percent of the Top 100 are diverse. Hubspot and Insight Global are the most awarded large organizations with seven consecutive wins in the Best Company Culture category, followed by ADP, Adobe and TaskUs – who are now tied with former winners Google and Microsoft – with six each.

The Top 10 Best Large Company Cultures are:

  1. Adobe
  2. Instacart
  3. Boston Consulting Group
  4. Toast
  5. Uber

About Comparably Awards

The final rankings were determined based on the most positive sentiment ratings to a series of questions in nearly 20 core culture metrics, from compensation (salary, bonus, raises) and career growth (opportunities, mentorship, goals) to leadership (CEO, executives, direct managers) and work environment (work-life balance, perks & benefits, coworkers) in yes/no, true/false, 1-10 scale, and multiple-choice format. The answer to each question was given a numerical score and then compared to companies of similar size.

To qualify, Large companies (more than 500 employees) must have met a minimum of 75 employee participants and Small/Mid-Size companies (500 or fewer employees) must have a minimum of 25 employee participants. For statistical significance, additional weight was given to companies with more participation from their employee base, relative to company size. There were no fees or costs associated with participating, nor was nomination required. Complete methodology can be found here.
