About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Dragos CEO & Founder Robert M. Lee to Address U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on the Cybersecurity Risks to the United States’ Energy Infrastructure

Dragos, Inc.:

SUMMARY: Dragos CEO and Founder Robert M. Lee has been invited to testify at the hearing before the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources before the United States Senate on March 23, 2023. Dragos, Inc., is the global leader in cybersecurity for industrial controls systems (ICS)/operational technology (OT) environments.

DETAILS: The purpose of this hearing is to examine the steps needed to address the cybersecurity vulnerabilities to the United States’ energy infrastructure. The hearing will be webcast live on the committee’s website, and an archived video will be available shortly after the hearing concludes. Witness testimony will be available on the website at the start of the hearing.

WHEN: Thursday, March 23, 2023 @10:00am ET

WHERE: Livestream: https://www.energy.senate.gov/hearings

In person: Room SD-366, Dirksen Senate Office Building, Washington, DC

BACKGROUND: In 2018, Lee testified before this committee to discuss the industrial cybersecurity threat landscape, which at the time was largely unknown. During that time, there were five threat groups that targeted industrial networks specifically. His testimony noted that while that sounded alarming, there was still time to address cybersecurity issues in critical infrastructure if the private and public sectors worked diligently together. Today with twenty such groups that Dragos tracks, and the discovery of a reusable cross-industry malware targeting operational technology, this message has more urgency.

ABOUT LEE: Robert is a recognized authority in the industrial cybersecurity community. He is CEO and co-founder of Dragos, a global technology leader in cybersecurity for industrial controls systems (ICS)/operational technology (OT) environments. He gained his start in cybersecurity as an U.S. Air Force Cyber Warfare Operations Officer tasked to the National Security Agency (NSA). There he established the first-of-its-kind ICS/SCADA cyber threat intelligence and intrusion analysis mission for the NSA to identify and analyze national threats to industrial infrastructure. Following his role at the NSA, Lee built the cybersecurity community’s first class for identifying and responding to threats targeted at ICS at the SANS Institute, the world’s largest company that specializes in information security and cybersecurity training.

Lee is routinely sought after for his advice and input into industrial threat detection and response. He serves in advisory roles to numerous governments and international organizations across the world including the United States Department of Energy (DOE), Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency, and the World Economic Forum’s (WEF’s) cybersecurity committees on oil and gas and electricity. He has presented at WEF Annual Meetings in Davos and industry leading conferences such as RSA, SANS, BlackHat, DefCon, and Forrester Security and Risk. He has testified to the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. As a non-resident national security fellow at New America, Robert worked to inform policy related to critical infrastructure cyber security. He is regularly asked by various governments to brief national level leaders.
