About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Videojet to Display Latest Coding Solutions for Food Packaging at Food Northwest 2023

Reliable marking and coding solutions integrate seamlessly into packaging lines and are designed to meet the needs of today’s food processing operations.

Videojet Technologies, a global leader in coding, marking and printing solutions, is showcasing printers and labelers for food packaging at this week’s Food Northwest Process and Packaging Expo in Booth 911 at the Oregon Convention Center, April 4-6, 2023.

Intuitive interface eases operator management while delivering the right code at the right quality

Attendees of the event will get to see the digitally enabled Videojet 1880 continuous inkjet (CIJ) printer in action. “The Videojet 1880 is exactly what food processing operators are looking for when it comes to high-speed coding while operating their lines without interruption,” said Mark Breunig, CIJ product manager at Videojet. “Smarter printer technology, thanks to the 1880’s predictive capabilities, means greater uptime, improved productivity and lower costs over the lifetime of the printer.”

Those predictive capabilities of the Videojet 1880 include the MAXIMiZE™ diagnostics platform that continuously monitors printer performance and helps operators reduce the main causes of unplanned downtime. In addition, the 1880 printhead comes with a unique sensor that can detect build-up and send an alert to the user. The 1880’s auto rinse feature removes ink build-up within 90 seconds and helps avoid potential print quality issues. The printer is also available with an IP66-rated cabinet and 316 stainless steel for high pressure and caustic washdown environments.

Designed to deliver a more productive operation

Food processers utilizing flexible packaging often turn to thermal transfer printing solutions like the Videojet 6530 for high-speed, high-quality marking and coding. Part of the Videojet DataFlex® range of Thermal Transfer Overprinters (TTO), the DataFlex 6530 can help boost operational productivity by reducing the time spent on quality checks and rework.

The 6530 offers multiple integration options with a modular design, and is available in two printhead widths, 53mm with iAssure™ and the airless 107mm. Engineered for applications such as vertical form, fill and seal, the 6530 offers print speeds up to 1000mm/s and throughputs up to 700 ppm.

Additional Videojet technologies to be showcased include thermal inkjet printing and case coding. For more information about the Videojet 1880 CIJ printer, the Dataflex 6530 TTO and the other products on display in booth 911 at Food Northwest 2023, please visit the website.
