About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Wolters Kluwer Celebrates a Decade of Bringing Virtual Nursing Education and Innovation to Students

Two million nursing students have benefited from vSim for Nursing

Wolters Kluwer Health today announced that vSim® for Nursing, a leader in virtual simulation for nursing education, celebrates its tenth anniversary of transforming the nursing education landscape. More than a decade ago, leaders from Wolters Kluwer, Laerdal Medical and the National League for Nursing came together, as they recognized they could help transform nursing education by empowering educators to deliver clinically based experiences to nursing students. This approach addressed the lack of clinical sites, one of the biggest barriers to increasing the number of new nurses in the workforce. Over two million students have progressed on their nursing journeys with vSim for Nursing.

“The use and adoption of virtual simulation in nursing education has come a long way in the past ten years,” said Julie Stegman, Vice President, Wolters Kluwer Health Learning & Practice. “Not only has this technology become a mainstay in nursing education, but it is also acknowledged and approved for replacing clinical hours, addressing a real need for nursing educators and students. Building these tools alongside the National League for Nursing and Laerdal Medical underscores Wolters Kluwer's commitment to innovation. We are honored to be part of this change and will continue to champion the use of simulation for nursing education.”

Wolters Kluwer continues to innovate with their collaborators by adding new features to vSim for Nursing and launching vrClinicals for Nursing, which introduces students to a care environment metaverse through VR technology. Using vSim for Nursing and vrClinicals for Nursing together allows students to progressively build their clinical judgment and prioritization skills by moving from single to multi-patient care in a busy hospital, making them more prepared for real-world challenges.

Equipping nursing students and faculty with vital cross-curriculum tools

Designed specifically to address the unique challenges of today’s nursing environment, where more practice-ready, clinically competent nurses are critically needed, simulation-based learning tools like vSim for Nursing produce students who are more ready to enter the healthcare setting. The true power of Wolters Kluwer's simulation products emerges when vSim for Nursing and vrClinicals for Nursing are combined with other experiential learning products such as Lippincott® Client Cases for Clinical Judgment and Lippincott® Docucare. Together, they provide the opportunity for safe, repeatable practice that helps develop confidence in life-like scenarios.

Making a lasting impact on the nursing workforce

Since 2014, vSim for Nursing has been a top virtual simulation tool for U.S. nursing programs, as it personalizes learning and allows each student unique patient interactions, for which they then receive feedback. The new 'Clinical Judgment in Action' feature builds competence in patient-centered care through reflective learning, fostering critical thinking and preparing students for the NCLEX®.

“With vSim for Nursing, our students have been able to acquire the clinical decision-making skills needed for patient care through an integrated approach that fosters learning and independent thinking,” said Jacqueline Semaan, MSN, CHSE, RNC-LRN Nursing Skills Lab Coordinator, Simulation Coordinator at Lake Superior College. “The integration of virtual simulation into our nursing curriculum has made a tremendous impact for our students–we are now seeing higher NCLEX pass rates and over 90% of our students are finding employment after graduation.”

Later this month, Wolters Kluwer will participate in Meta’s XR Healthcare Education Day in New York City, to discuss how immersive technology will help shape the future of patient care and training for the next generation of providers. As part of the Lippincott® Partnership for Nursing Education and Testing, vSim for Nursing is used in pre-licensure nursing education programs alongside a curriculum suite intentionally designed to ready nursing students for real-world practice.
