About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Clearfield Launches Compact Ready Connect Terminal, Delivering Craft-Friendly Fiber Solutions

Ready Connect Terminal Maximizes Aesthetic and Functional Benefits for Any Deployment Environment

Clearfield, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLFD), the leader in community broadband fiber connectivity, today announced the release of the StreetSmart® Ready Connect™ Terminal (RCT), a small, craft-friendly fiber terminal designed for pedestal applications that supports up to eight drop connections when mid-span is needed. Developed based on the demands of the market and feedback from customers, this innovative terminal addresses key operator needs, such as space constraints, ease of installation, and long-term reliability. It is optimized for small pedestals, such as Clearfield’s CraftSmart® FiberFirst™ 6-inch pedestal, providing a discreet, aesthetically pleasing solution.

The Ready Connect Terminal is engineered to offer exceptional flexibility in diverse application environments, including rural, suburban, and urban deployments. Its design supports both terminated and spliced drops and includes features such as a removable splice tray for easy fiber routing of up to 24 loose-tube fibers. These capabilities make the Ready Connect Terminal an ideal solution for operators seeking efficient, scalable, and reliable fiber connections in above-ground pedestal installations.

“The compact design of the Ready Connect Terminal ensures operators can meet the increasing demand for fiber broadband while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of residential and commercial spaces,” said Clearfield’s Chief Marketing Officer, Anis Khemakhem. “With its ability to handle mid-span and drop terminations, the Ready Connect Terminal simplifies the deployment process for technicians, helping network providers bridge the digital divide faster and more cost-effectively.”

Features and Benefits:

  • Compact Design: Optimized for deployment in Clearfield’s 6-inch CraftSmart pedestal, offering a low-profile solution for residential and commercial areas.
  • Ease of Access: Includes a removable splice tray and adapter plate for cleaning, scoping, and splicing, enabling technicians to complete installations efficiently.
  • Robust Protection: Durable materials and lay-in grommets provide secure cable retention, ensuring long-term reliability across various environmental conditions.
  • Flexible Applications: Supports mid-span splicing and drop terminations, making it suitable for diverse deployment scenarios.

The StreetSmart Ready Connect Terminal is optimized to address customer needs in above-ground distributed TAP and distributed split architectures. Unlike alternative terminals, the Ready Connect Terminal is specifically designed for small pedestal applications, offering a smaller footprint and easier installation without compromising network performance.

“Clearfield continues to deliver innovative solutions that simplify fiber deployments and provide a scalable solution. The Ready Connect Terminal also includes key features that provide security to the fibers and flexibility in how it’s deployed in the outside plant where space is a premium,” said Donny Colson, Director of OSP Engineering and Operations, Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative. “The Ready Connect Terminal fits perfectly into our plans as it gives our field installation teams splicing options, protects the fiber strands from damage from animals, and allows us to streamline deployment as it can be used with all of our member network deployments.”

The Ready Connect Terminal is available for orders. More information on the StreetSmart Ready Connect Terminal can be found on the data sheet, in this introductory video, or by visiting www.SeeClearfield.com.
