About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

FIS® (NYSE: FIS), a global leader in financial technology, has announced today that its community banking core banking platform HORIZON has been recognized by Celent in its annual XCelent Awards program. The solution won the Advanced Technology category, a testament to how FIS drives deposit growth and wallet share for its clients through core platforms of unparalleled agility, customizability, and scalability.

As part of Celent’s new North American retail banking core systems report, The Advanced Technology category recognizes top-performing platforms based on Celent's proprietary ABC scoring methodology, measuring for (A)dvanced technology, (B)readth of functionality and (C)lient base and service. FIS HORIZON was also deemed a “Luminary” within Celent’s Technical Capability Matrix, which is given to platforms that combine strong technology architecture with a high breadth of functionality, complemented by significant customer base and support capabilities.

“We are thrilled that our clients and third-party industry experts such as Celent are recognizing HORIZON as a best-in-class solution for North American institutions,” said Melissa Cullen, Head of Core Banking Solutions at FIS. “With our continued modernization investments in HORIZON, FIS seeks to redefine core banking, placing it at the center of a fully connected financial ecosystem. This allows financial institutions to unlock opportunities across the money lifecycle from a single platform, creating a more streamlined and agile environment, and elevating the full banking experience for their clients.”

FIS HORIZON is a core banking platform geared for community banks, helping them to optimize the customer relationships that they thrive and depend on. With intuitive and customer-centric design, HORIZON combines banking functionality with a modern user experience that can be navigated on phone or tablet. It provides comprehensive security and has an open, flexible, and scalable architecture that allows a community banking institution to adapt rapidly to modern consumer needs.

“We’re excited to shine a spotlight on FIS and its standout core banking platform in this year’s XCelent Awards,” said Craig Focardi, Principal Analyst at Celent. “HORIZON remains a reliable and popular choice for community banks and specialty finance institutions. In fact, it’s added more clients than any other core system since our last community bank report. Despite the consolidation in the community banking sector, we expect HORIZON to continue attracting new customers.”

The recognition builds on FIS’ successes from last year when the company received three XCelent awards for its core banking platforms.
