About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Comcast Expanding State-of-the-Art Network to Nearly 10,000 Homes and Businesses in Radford, VA

Construction is Underway to Bring Xfinity and Comcast Business Services to Residents and Businesses of Radford for the First Time

Comcast today announced the start of construction to connect nearly 10,000 new homes and businesses in Radford, VA to reliable, high-speed, symmetrical Internet. This network expansion will enhance digital infrastructure, promote economic growth, and position residents and local businesses for success in an increasingly digital world. The project brings Internet, mobile, entertainment, and security services from Xfinity and Comcast Business to residents and businesses for the first time.

The first homes and businesses will be connected to Xfinity and Comcast Business products and services in early 2025. Residents can visit Xfinity.com/mytown to enter their address for additional details on construction timing and upcoming service availability. Additionally, they can visit their nearby Xfinity Store located at 2475 North Franklin Place, Christiansburg, VA 24073.

“We welcome Comcast to Radford and applaud them for bringing residents and businesses a new choice for fast, reliable Internet and advanced connectivity solutions,” said David Ridpath, Radford City Manager. “We are excited to have an additional provider that will help our community continue to thrive in today’s digital economy."

Comcast’s expansion to Radford is part of the company’s latest investment in Virginia, including:

  • Lynchburg, VA: Comcast is expanding its network to 12,000 additional homes and businesses across the Lynchburg area. As part of this project, 2,100 homes and businesses in the City of Lynchburg will be fully connected by end of year and construction is underway on 3,200 homes and businesses in Forest with services already available to some residents.
  • Christiansburg, VA: Xfinity and Comcast Business services are available to more than 13,700 homes and businesses in Christiansburg.
  • Strasburg, VA: Xfinity and Comcast Business services are available to more than 3,300 homes and businesses in Strasburg.

“We are proud to deepen our investment in Virginia and bring our state-of-the-art network to thousands more residents and small businesses in Radford,” said Ray Roundtree, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Beltway Region. “Our network delivers fast, powerful and reliable Internet so people can stay connected to what matters most to them – whether its online education, business meetings, telehealth appointments or staying in touch with friends and family.”

A Network You Can Trust to be Reliable, Fast and Secure

Comcast’s state-of-the-art network is built to enable residents and businesses to thrive in today’s constantly connected world. Radford joins the more than 63 million homes and businesses across the country to have access to a network that is trusted by essential community organizations like hospitals, schools, transportation systems and first responders, and federal agencies like the Department of Defense and FEMA. It delivers gigabit Internet speeds, 99.9 percent reliability and built-in security to help keep customers safe from cyber threats.

Introducing Xfinity for Consumers

Comcast’s residential services are marketed under the Xfinity brand, and consumers in Radford will be able to take advantage of Xfinity’s full suite of products including Internet, video, mobile, voice, and home security. With gigabit Internet speeds, powerful WiFi that reaches every corner of the home, and super-responsive connections with low lag available with Xfinity plans, customers have a great experience using their connected devices to stream their favorite sports and entertainment content, video chat with coworkers and friends, learn from home or simply surf the web.

Comcast Business to Power Radford

For local businesses, Comcast Business offers a suite of connectivity, communications, networking, cybersecurity, wireless, and managed solutions to help organizations of all sizes achieve their business goals. Industry analysts and associations have consistently recognized Comcast Business as a leader and innovator in flexible, scalable options as well as one of the fastest-growing providers of Ethernet services.

What It Means for the Radford Community

Comcast’s commitment to communities goes beyond building the network and aims to increase economic mobility for the local community and its residents. That’s why Comcast created Internet Essentials, a broadband adoption program that offers eligible households low-cost, high-speed Internet and affordable computers. Additionally, over the past three years, Comcast has invested more than $39 million in cash and in-kind donations in Virginia nonprofits, including New River Community Action – a nonprofit based in Radford that supports the well-being and self-reliance of individuals, families and communities. These investments are focused on helping people build digital skills, expanding WiFi-connected Lift Zones and funding connectivity and Internet adoption programs.
