About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Pondurance Sponsored Research Survey Finds 60% of Healthcare Providers Experienced 4 or More System Failures, Cyberattacks, or Breaches Over the Last Year

Strict regulatory environment results in 71% of organizations prioritizing HIPAA compliance over the security of new systems and interconnected medical devices

Pondurance, the leading provider of managed detection and response (MDR) cybersecurity services designed to minimize breach risks, today announced publication of a new survey by Xtelligent research into cybersecurity and compliance challenges, and associated risks, faced by healthcare providers.

The survey concludes that technology complexity and scope are the most significant factors (59% of respondents) impairing their ability to stay ahead of cyber threats. Additionally, its findings include the following factors and risks that affect their ability to maintain the privacy and security of sensitive protected health information (PHI):

  • Protecting regulated customer data from risks in light of evolving federal, state and international regulations including HIPAA and GDPR (71%) and new types of cyber threats like ransomware (63%), cannot be addressed with existing team members
  • Complying with HIPAA security, privacy and breach response regulations is their #1 cybersecurity priority
  • Detection (66%) of and response (61%) to security threats and incidents are top measures associated with minimizing breach risks

Given these factors, the survey also finds that healthcare providers plan to increase their spending for risk assessments (69%), security analytics (66%), incident response (63%) and MDR services (61%).

“The trend toward escalating data breaches within healthcare organizations creates a commensurate escalation of risks to patient privacy, regulatory compliance, and medical care,” said Doug Howard, president and CEO of Pondurance. “That is why so many healthcare providers have moved to a cyber risk orientation and trust the risk-based Pondurance MDR for cybersecurity protection and compliance, resulting in minimizing their breach risks.”

Pondurance provides a complete solution for mid-market organizations to outsource their cybersecurity and breach risk minimization strategies. In addition to a distinctive risk-based MDR, they also provide a suite of cybersecurity services including digital forensics and incident response (DFIR), as well as cyber advisory services such as security risk assessments and compliance audits, with a specialization in the complex healthcare risk and regulatory environment.

“This study highlights the challenges healthcare organizations face in balancing cyber threats, regulatory compliance, and information access and exchange in the fluid healthcare environment,” said Hayden Schmidt, Healthcare Market Insights Analyst at Xtelligent. “One core finding is that healthcare providers increasingly rely on outside experts and hosted services like MDRs to address breach risks and ensure compliance.”
