Walgreens First Community Pharmacy to Accept a Broad Array of Medicare Advantage Supplemental Benefits Online and in App

Eligible Medicare Advantage members can now use their benefits to purchase approximately 1,700 items digitally for shipping, pickup or same-day delivery

Today, Walgreens announced it is the first community pharmacy to accept a broad array of Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online, through Walgreens.com and the Walgreens app. Eligible members can now shop from a catalog of approximately 1,700 Shop Eligible Products on Walgreens digital channels. Consumers have been able to shop using their Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits in stores since 2019 and this brings even greater convenience with new digital shopping solutions regardless of payment method.

“As a health and wellbeing destination for everyone, Walgreens is always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience with solutions for every shopper,” said Tracey D. Brown, EVP, President, Walgreens Retail and Chief Customer Officer. “Accepting Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online and on the Walgreens app improves shopping solutions for those who are homebound, have limited mobility or are simply short on time.”

This new offering builds on Walgreens commitment for accessible care by providing additional digital health and wellbeing offerings, including 30-minute Pickup and 1-hour Delivery of retail products, Same-Day Prescription Delivery, Walgreens Rx Savings Finder, Walgreens Virtual Healthcare, Seniors Day held every first Tuesday of the month and more.

Who Is Eligible

Walgreens accepts Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online from numerous well-known providers. Customers may check eligibility by visiting their Medicare Advantage plan website. Customers may also call the number on the back of their Medicare Advantage card to determine if their supplemental benefits are eligible online through Walgreens.

How to Shop Using Medicare Advantage Benefits

The customer experience on Walgreens.com and the Walgreens app is seamless and simple for Medicare Advantage members.

  • Members can browse eligible products as per their plan on Walgreens.com and Walgreens app via our dedicated OTC landing page. Members will see a list of eligible items associated with their plan along with common eligible OTC items across multiple plans.
  • Members can purchase OTC eligible items, including Walgreens brands items like 12 Hour Mucus Relief DM Extended-Release Tablets, Pulse Oximeter with Respiratory Rate, Arthritis Pain Relieving Gel and Ultra Probiotic Capsules by inputting their Medicare Advantage card numbers as their first form of payment. Eligible OTC products will be paid for using their available card funds. Members will need to use another form of payment for items outside of their OTC supplemental benefits.
  • Members can participate in Walgreens Seniors Day, where patients 55 and older and their caregivers can save 20% off eligible regular-priced merchandise on the first Tuesday of every month or online all week with code SENIOR20 at checkout.
  • To finish the transaction, members can choose from several convenient pickup or delivery options including:
    • 1-hour and 24-hour Same Day Delivery Options: Walgreens offers 1-hour Delivery nationwide, allowing customers to place orders by 7 p.m. local time (hours may vary) for delivery of more than 27,000 retail items right to their door. In addition, those with OTC healthcare and retail product needs outside of these hours may order and select 24-hour Delivery from over 450 Walgreens locations.
    • 30-minute Pickup: Walgreens offers 30-minute Pickup nationwide. Customers must place their order at least one hour before their Walgreens store closes. Pickup hours vary by location based on store operating hours
  • We continue to enhance capabilities by adding new payer plans for OTC and associated eligible items.

Medicare Advantage members can make their dollars go even further by using myWalgreens, America’s largest free health and wellness loyalty program, to earn and redeem Walgreens Cash rewards on their purchases. myWalgreens is free to join in-store, online at Walgreens.com or from the Walgreens app.
