About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Kimberly Flynn Promoted to President of XA Investments LLC

Focus on Growing XAI’s Presence in Interval Fund Marketplace

XA Investments LLC (“XAI”), a Chicago-based alternative investment management and consulting firm, today announced that Kimberly Flynn, CFA, has expanded her leadership role at the firm with her promotion to President. Ms. Flynn was a member of the founding leadership team for XAI, helping launch the firm in 2016 as Managing Director where she built XAI’s proprietary closed-end fund platform. In 2020, Ms. Flynn introduced the firm’s consulting practice to assist clients with developing US and UK registered closed-end funds.

Ms. Flynn has more than 20 years of experience in investment product strategy, design and development. Prior to joining XAI, she led Nuveen Investment’s Global Structured Products Group which was responsible for the listed closed-end fund business. Her experience includes roles in registered fund product development for both traditional and alternative investment strategies.

In her expanded role, Ms. Flynn will work to grow XAI’s presence in the interval fund marketplace and will expand XAI’s team to support the growth of the business. She will continue to lead XAI’s proprietary closed-end fund platform, consulting practice and research business. Over the last five years, XAI has expanded its consulting practice to serve asset management clients on alternative product design and development projects. XAI recently launched its subscription-based research portal for asset managers to access in-depth quarterly research on the interval fund and tender offer fund marketplace.

This promotion reflects Kim’s strong leadership over the last eight years and her recognized expertise in the closed-end fund marketplace. Kim has successfully established XA Investments as the go-to source for consulting services to help alternative asset managers launch their own registered funds. With the growth in demand for private markets, XAI is well positioned to expand further,” said Ted Brombach, Co-CEO at XAI.

In January of this year, XAI’s listed closed-end fund, XAI Octagon Floating Rate & Alternative Trust (NYSE: XFLT), became a perpetual fund. The Trust had $622 in total managed assets as of March 31, 2024. In February 2024, XAI launched a new interval fund, the Octagon XAI CLO Income Fund (OCTIX). Both funds are sub-advised by Octagon Credit Investors.

I’m honored to serve XAI’s consulting clients and to lead XAI’s product development and research teams,” said Flynn. “With the growth in the interval fund marketplace, this is a very exciting time for XAI as we continue to grow our interval fund business.”

Ms. Flynn earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and her BBA in Finance and Business Economics, summa cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1999. She serves on the Notre Dame Wall Street leadership committee. She also serves as secretary of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Women’s board executive committee and on the advisory board of Youth Guidance’s Becoming A Man program, which has had a positive impact on the lives of Chicago youth. She is an active member of the Harvard Club of New York City and the University Club of Chicago where she serves on the Finance Committee. Kim lives in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago with her husband and their two teenage children.
