About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

“Our giving programs like Schwab Volunteer Week underscore the importance of service at Schwab – not only for our clients but also for our communities,” said Rick Wurster, President of The Charles Schwab Corporation and President and Chair of Charles Schwab Foundation. “Schwab has always been committed to giving back by investing our time, talent and financial resources into strengthening and empowering our local communities.”

Schwab Volunteer Week was designed to make it easy and flexible for employees to participate, offering on-campus, off-site, in-person and virtual volunteer projects. A national network of nearly 200 Schwab community ambassadors played an integral role in creating projects that address local community needs and align to causes employees care about. Employees can choose from nearly 700 service projects, including:

  • On-campus drop-in projects at all major employment centers to create care packages for children in the foster care system and “thank you for your service” kits for military members and first responders;
  • Activities that support food security through preparing and serving meals, sorting and distributing food donations, and packaging nutritious meals;
  • Community beautification, maintenance and clean-up projects that promote environmental stewardship and sustainability;
  • As well as a variety of other projects in support of disaster relief preparation, youth education, clothing donations, and animal well-being.

Financial literacy has long been a core cause for Schwab and a cornerstone of Schwab Volunteer Week, and this year’s event features a number of projects focused on financial education, including:

  • Workshops featuring Schwab’s flagship financial literacy program Moneywise America to empower students with the knowledge, skills and behaviors to become financially confident;
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of America events for teenagers that simulate real-world financial decisions about career, income and expenses, and saving and investing, and;
  • A variety of service projects with Girl Scouts of the USA, Junior Achievement and other nonprofit partners that foster financial capability, entrepreneurism, and career development among young people and people in under-resourced communities.

In addition to more than 32,000 hours of employee service, Charles Schwab Foundation will donate up to $575,000 to nonprofits that participate in Schwab Volunteer Week.

Schwab’s commitment to service is apparent year-round, with more than 11,400 employees volunteering more than 148,000 hours in 2023 to support nonprofits in communities across the country. Schwabbies are empowered to serve their communities year-round through a robust suite of volunteer programs and giving benefits such as paid time off to volunteer, group volunteer grants, volunteer training and matching charitable donations.

Schwab has been recognized by Points of Light as one of the 50 most community-minded companies in the United States for seven consecutive years. Watch a Schwab employee share her volunteerism story and follow Schwab Volunteer Week on social media at #Schwab4Good.
