About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Rootstock Software Names Richard Berger as New CEO

Software veteran joins Manufacturing Cloud ERP leader to guide company vision and strategy

Rootstock Software, a recognized leader in the Manufacturing Cloud ERP space, today announced the appointment of Richard (Rick) Berger as Chief Executive Officer. In this role, Berger will lead Rootstock’s vision and strategy as the company ushers in a new chapter of innovation. This appointment follows on the heels of the company’s recent Rooted-In Manufacturing Conference, where manufacturing leaders across technology, finance, and operations learned about the company’s latest innovations, including AIRS™ (AI from Rootstock) and Rootstock’s vision for manufacturing, alongside partners like Salesforce.

Berger succeeds Interim CEO Jeff Ralyea, who will continue to serve as Executive Chairman of the Board, maintaining his advisory role. “Rick’s appointment comes at a critical juncture in Rootstock’s trajectory; demand for Rootstock ERP, built on the Salesforce Platform, is accelerating as manufacturers move from siloed operations to a more connected Signal Chain strategy,” said Ralyea. “Rick has a proven track record of scaling tech companies for growth. Add to this his understanding of the enterprise software market and experience across the Salesforce ecosystem, and it’s a combination sure to drive success for Rootstock and to enable the Rootstock team to deliver new levels of value to our customers and partners.”

"After years of navigating volatility, inflation, and pressures on profitability, manufacturers stand on the precipice of momentous change," said Rick Berger. "Through innovative solutions like Rootstock Manufacturing ERP and AIRS, we’re catalyzing a much-needed shift. Equipping manufacturers with the right infrastructure and cutting-edge technologies—including predictive analytics, generative AI, and IoT—we’re helping them overcome past challenges and seize new opportunities for growth and digital advancement. Joining Rootstock at this pivotal point is exciting, as our offering has the potential to shape the future of the industry. I’m eager to contribute to Rootstock's global expansion and strengthen our commitment to helping manufacturers succeed."

Berger brings over 25 years of experience in technology, software, and leadership. Most recently, he served as the President of NewStore, a unified commerce platform helping brands manage their retail operations. At NewStore, Berger fostered high-performance teams, driving strong annual recurring revenue growth. During his tenure at NewStore, Berger also advanced the company’s partnership with Salesforce, helping to launch an omnichannel solution that integrated Salesforce capabilities into physical retail environments. Berger also spent several years as the Global Vice President of Sales at Infor’s Retail Business Unit and as the VP of Sales in Oracle Retail's Business Unit.
