About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Reliant Has Your Back When Summer Temps Climb

With 48 Beat the Heat Centers statewide, $200 in bonus bill credits and tools to manage energy usage, Reliant has resources for every Texan

As summer settles in, millions of residents across Texas are reaching for the thermostat. Whether you’re someone who is managing a set monthly budget, needs a safe place to cool off or simply want more transparency in your energy usage, Reliant has a simple message this summer: we have your back.

“As we prepare for another hot Texas summer, Reliant is keeping the safety and comfort of our customers and the community top of mind. It’s important to us that we’re more than just an electricity provider,” said Andrea Russell, senior vice president, Reliant. “As part of our commitment to communities throughout Texas, we’re providing a range of energy assistance, opening 48 Beat the Heat Centers and offering innovative digital tools to empower customers to manage their energy use more efficiently this summer.”

Beat the Heat Centers and Keeping Cool at Home

In partnership with local health departments, city governments and nonprofit organizations, Reliant is opening 48 Beat the Heat cooling centers in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi and Lubbock over the next few weeks. These centers provide a safe space for seniors and vulnerable residents to cool off and decrease their energy usage at home. Further, Reliant is donating more than $180,000 across Texas, which helps fund the distribution of 1,000 cooling devices, including portable air conditioners, air coolers and boxed fans, for residents to stay safe at home. For a full list of Beat the Heat centers statewide, please visit reliant.com/beattheheat.

Savor Summer with Two Days of Free Electricity Every Week

The Flextra Credits plan conveniently provides customers with free electricity on their two highest-use days every week (up to 8 free days a month), as well as $200 total in bonus bill credits that can be redeemed over the length of their term. This plan is powered by 100% solar and was built to adapt to busy lifestyles and changing summer schedules, while also providing relief when customers need it most.

Financial Assistance to Help Neighbors in Need

Reliant is also providing financial assistance and support to its customers through the Community Assistance by Reliant Energy (CARE) program. This program helps customers facing financial hardship by connecting them with social service agencies for assistance. Reliant’s 24/7 award-winning customer care team can help customers determine if they qualify for CARE or if other assistance options, like payment plans, extensions or Average Monthly Billing, are a better fit. Reliant customer care can be reached at 1-866-222-7100 or available 24/7 via live phone support, online chat or on the Reliant app.

Savings Power Pack

Throughout the summer months when increased usage is common, Reliant’s Savings Power Pack provides customers with the tools they need to manage their electricity costs, including:

  • The award-winning Reliant App helps customers stay informed of usage and costs and take proactive measures to reduce, conserve and save. The app empowers customers to actively manage and adjust their habits with real-time bill projections, insightful trends and usage comparisons. Solar and EV customers also have enhanced experiences to manage their production and control the charging of their vehicle.
  • Customers can sign up for Degrees of Difference to help conserve energy during peak usage times. Customers receive a bill credit for enrolling in the Smart Thermostats program, which can help reduce energy usage by adjusting smart thermostat temperatures by no more than four degrees. Reliant’s program is compatible with Google Nest, Honeywell Home and Emerson Sensi thermostats. Customers always remain in control and can manually adjust their temperature if needed.
  • To further help customers manage and reduce their costs, customers can also receive unlimited $50 bill credits for themselves and a friend for each referral by using the Reliant Referral Program.
