About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Orion Unveils New Standalone Trading to Empower Advisors with Greater Flexibility

Wealthtech innovator adds flexible standalone solutions and Foundation Stack, enabling advisors to choose their own adventure

Orion, the premier provider of transformative wealthtech solutions for fiduciary advisors, today announced the availability of standalone solutions and a new bundled offering to provide advisors unparalleled flexibility. Orion's new à la carte and bundled offerings allow advisors to tailor their approach and conduct business as they see fit – choosing from fully insourced to fully outsourced technology and/or wealth management solutions and everything in between. By delivering both standalone and all-encompassing solutions, Orion is equipping advisors with the resources and support they need to succeed at every stage of their firm's growth journey.

“At Orion, we are on a mission to build a wealthtech community where every advisor and investor can thrive,” said Natalie Wolfsen, CEO of Orion. “By offering a unified, flexible ecosystem of offerings where every firm can do business with us as they see fit, we aim to provide unrivaled opportunity to all advisors, no matter their size or business model, to set their growth plans and scale their business on their terms.”

As the first steps toward increasing flexibility for advisors, Orion began offering its Risk and Compliance Supervision offerings as standalone solutions earlier this year. Later this summer, Orion is adding Trading to its standalone roster to provide advisors an integrated trading and rebalancing solution they can access and leverage alongside their current platform and technology. The standalone Orion Trading solution encompasses a sophisticated portfolio rebalancing engine and an order and execution management system, while offering direct custodian feeds, data reconciliation, and access to the Communities Investment Portal, Due Diligence Hub and Custom Indexing.

By offering Trading as a standalone solution, Orion eliminates many of the challenges large Wealth Advisory firms and RIAs can face when attempting to comprehensively transition everything to a new platform solution; this flexible approach enables firms to seamlessly integrate new technology and processes as their needs evolve and at their own pace.

New Foundation Stack is a Starter Kit for Smaller RIAs

Orion is the most integrated and top-rated most-in-one solution. Since its introduction last year, Orion Stacks has proven popular, with nearly 20% of Orion’s technology clients opting into this enhanced and streamlined wealthtech experience. To further expand this offering, Orion is introducing the Foundation Stack, primarily aimed at smaller RIA firms and those new to the RIA space. This new solution comes with a notable discount on any Redtail Plan, a client portal and mobile app, Orion Planning, Orion’s Alternative Investment Platform, portfolio accounting, billing, and full reporting functionality.

Similar to Orion Essentials and Orion Advantage Stacks, advisors utilizing the Foundation Stack also gain access to Custom Indexing, Orion OCIO, Outsourced Trade Desk and professional services including alternative maintenance. This foundational technology serves as the cornerstone for building and expanding a successful practice, providing firms the flexibility to expand their technology stack as needed.

“Orion has a well-established culture of innovation. To continue meeting advisors where they are in their growth journey, we strive to ensure we’re always learning from them,” added Brian McLaughlin, president of Orion Advisor Tech. “We remain ahead of the competition by understanding the challenges our advisors face and identifying areas of opportunity. Only then can we truly help them win, elevating their client service with a seamless digital experience and giving them time back to focus on serving their clients and acquiring new business."

Orion Stacks were designed to banish siloed technology and provide advisors with a cohesive experience that propels productivity, delights clients and drives firm growth. By seamlessly integrating every critical solution into one agreement with a single provider, Orion removes complexity and helps advisors focus on growing and scaling their business. At the same time, by also offering Orion solutions as standalone offerings within its unified, flexible ecosystem, Orion provides firms the flexibility to engage with the platform and work with Orion in a way that best meets their current needs.

Wolfsen concluded: "We are dedicated to helping advisors realize their own visions of success and build successful, sustainable practices. The introduction of our new standalone solutions and the Foundation Stack underscores this commitment to providing the most relevant and effective tools that help advisors to thrive in today’s dynamic environment."
