About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

BitPath Premiers NavPath™ Precision Navigation Platform at ION GNSS+ Conference in Baltimore

The First Infinitely Scalable, Ultra High-Power RTK Navigation Service is Now Available in the US

Today at the Institute of Navigation’s ION GNSS+ conference in Baltimore, BitPath introduces NavPath™, the first infinitely scalable precision location platform that provides continuous, high performance, true RTK corrections data without a mobile data connection.

NavPath™ RTK corrections are broadcast at ultra high-power levels of up to 1 million watts from tall towers using heavy coding and error correction to deliver reliable service across entire metropolitan regions with low, stable latency. The corrections data originate from a network of continuously operating RTK reference stations in each NavPath™ market and are provided in industry standard formats, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices in use. BitPath also offers the MRP-2000v2 as a fully integrated solution already authorized for operation in the U.S. and South Korea.

Transmission expense and performance are major obstacles to OEM’s goal of bringing precise navigation to the fast-growing markets for intelligent and autonomous mobility. Traditional RTK services that leverage mobile data plans require a dedicated, continuous data session for each user, even though all vehicles, drones and other devices in the same area need identical corrections data. Those one-to-one mobile sessions can also be interrupted during periods of peak wireless usage.

PPP and PPP-RTK systems mitigate mobile data costs by transmitting SSR data from satellites, which broadcast the same data over wide areas. But geostationary satellite links are unreliable for mobile users in urban and suburban areas, and even the best PPP-RTK services lack the rapid acquisition times and reliable centimeter-level precision of true RTK.

Ultra high-power NavPath™ combines the efficiency of broadcast with the precision and performance only true RTK can provide. NavPath’s high power UHF transmissions provide reliable service even in dense urban areas. And because NavPath™ corrections are broadcast, network congestion is never an issue.

BitPath will be showcasing the NavPath™ platform this week in Booth #329 at the ION GNSS+ show in Baltimore. ION GNSS+ is the world's largest technical meeting and showcase of GNSS technology, products, and services.

John Hane, BitPath’s President, said, “The high cost of reliable transmission, especially in developed areas, is the largest single obstacle to universal centimeter-level positioning. NavPath’s high power terrestrial network solves that problem better than any other solution.” He added, “Never before has state-of-the-art RTK performance been available for simultaneous use by millions of devices in a single metro area without network slowdowns or high transmission costs. Broadcast RTK is a game changer in a world that increasingly demands precise location data everywhere, all the time, with fast acquisition times.”

Denny Welch, BitPath’s Director of Business Development, noted, “BitPath’s broadcast data network is open and ready to serve a wide range of positioning and navigation applications including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and ADS (Automated Driving Systems), surveying, autonomous drones and robots, public safety, construction, and agriculture. We provide branded NavPath™ and BitPoint™ service, and our RTK broadcast platform is also available on a white label basis for integration in other platforms. BitPath can also host other specialized and proprietary GNSS corrections services to improve their quality and reach while reducing costs. The unique value is in BitPath’s high power transmission network.”
