About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

McAfee Brings McAfee Deepfake Detector to Select HP Copilot+ PCs

  • McAfee® Deepfake Detector alerts people in seconds if it detects AI-generated audio in a video, helping consumers discern real from fake content online.
  • The world’s first AI-powered and automatic deepfake detector will be preinstalled on select HP Copilot+ PCs,i empowering people to engage with online content more confidently in an increasingly AI-driven world.
  • Leveraging the processor’s NPU on the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip and HP OmniBook X Next-Gen AI PCs, McAfee Deepfake Detector swiftly identifies AI-generated audio in videos while maximizing privacy and achieving a performance increase over cloud-based models with on-device processing.

McAfee, a global leader in online protection, today announced that McAfee Deepfake Detector is preinstalled on the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip and HP OmniBook X Next-Gen AI PCs. With AI-generated deepfake videos rapidly spreading across the internet and social media, the line between reality and fabrication has never been blurrier. To tackle this growing threat of AI-driven scams and misinformation, McAfee has collaborated with HP to bring cutting-edge deepfake detection technology to consumers on select HP Copilot+ PCs. Enhancing this effort, McAfee’s Smart AI Hub remains a trusted resource, offering up-to-date information and educational content on AI, cybersecurity, deepfakes, and AI-powered scams, and empowering consumers to join the fight against scammers.

As The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 20241 ranks misinformation and disinformation as the top global threats for the next two years, the rise of AI-generated ‘deepfake’ videos online compounds these challenges. McAfee’s automatic, AI-powered deepfake detection technology gives consumers an essential tool for assessing the authenticity of online videos with audio. It also empowers consumers to navigate their online lives confidently, leveraging the neural processing unit (NPU) to maximize on-device processing and offer a consumer-friendly combination of privacy and performance.

“Advancements in AI have made it easy to generate sophisticated deepfakes, effectively blurring the lines between reality and fiction. McAfee Deepfake Detector is doing a superb job helping consumers tell what is real versus what is fake online,” said Samuel Chang, Senior Vice President, Consumer Personal Systems at HP Inc. “It's a vital tool that provides everyday value in defending against AI-facilitated scams and we are excited to have this feature on the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip and HP OmniBook X.”

“Although AI-generated content isn't always designed to deceive, the ability to distinguish real from manipulated videos helps consumers to make better-informed decisions,” said Steve Grobman, Chief Technology Officer at McAfee. “This is especially important today, as we see deepfake technology being used to spread misinformation in every sphere, from politics to pop culture. Thanks to our advanced, AI-powered technology and our collaboration with HP, we’re using AI for good and giving more people the tools to confidently navigate the tsunami of misinformation and deepfakes we're seeing today. We’re thrilled to have the chance to provide consumers with the power of our deepfake detection capabilities with HP.”

Enhanced performance, with privacy safeguards

With McAfee® Deepfake Detector now available on select HP Copilot+ PCs, consumers who opt in will be alerted within seconds if AI-altered audio is detected in videos, without the need for manual video uploads. Trained on hundreds of thousands of samples and counting and leveraging the power of the NPU on HP Copilot+ PCs, McAfee’s AI detection models perform the entire analysis directly on the PC, maximizing on-device processing to keep private user data off the cloud. McAfee does not collect or record a user’s audio in any way, and the user can turn audio detection on or off at any time.

McAfee Deepfake Detector enhances privacy and processing speed, and improves battery life, by leveraging the NPU for on-device analysis. This not only improves the user experience by allowing consumers to make informed decisions about the content they view but also protects them from cybercriminals manipulating audio within videos. McAfee Deepfake Detector runs quietly in the background, ensuring consistent PC performance, whether a consumer is gaming, browsing, or watching videos, reliably shielding users from deceptions and alerting them to potential scams without disrupting their activities.

HP’s next generation of AI PCs are designed for AI beginners and professionals alike who need a device optimized for speed and smooth performance to boost productivity and accelerate creativity. Through the power of a turbocharged NPU,ii HP delivers unique Copilot+ PCs experiences and the confidence of advanced security with McAfee Deepfake Detector.

Availability and Pricing

McAfee® Deepfake Detector is available for English language detection on the OmniBook Ultra Flip and HP OmniBook X Next-Gen AI PCs, in the US, UK, Australia, India, and Ireland.
