About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Northeast Mississippi Community College Becomes First School to Deploy Mobile Credential on Transact IDX® Platform

Transact + CBORD leads the market in offering mobile credential solutions to community colleges, expanding student services beyond large universities

Transact + CBORD, an award-winning leader in innovative campus technology, today announced Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) has become the first institution to launch mobile credential technology on the company’s next-generation Transact IDX® platform.

Transact IDX®—a cloud-based campus transaction and credential system— connects housing, dining, retail, and security services through a secure, mobile-first design. Adding mobile credential technology transforms smartphones into fast, secure student ID cards using NFC-enabled technology, eliminating the need for plastic cards.

This milestone deployment also reinforces Transact + CBORD’s position as the leading provider currently serving community colleges with live mobile credential solutions. NEMCC becomes the seventh community college to adopt the technology, demonstrating Transact + CBORD’s ability to scale mobile credential solutions for institutions regardless of size or residential campus model, which marks a significant advancement in campus identity and access management for community and technical colleges.

“We jumped at the chance to be the first school to launch on the IDX platform,” said Chris Murphy, Vice President of Finance at Northeast Mississippi Community College. “Transact + CBORD worked closely with us to scale and adapt the system to fit our needs and resources, ensuring our students could benefit from the same innovative mobile credential technology used at much larger universities.”

The adoption rate speaks to student demand: nearly 40% of students at NEMCC adopted the mobile credential within the first two weeks of its launch, showing an eagerness for consistent, secure, user-friendly mobile experiences on campuses of all sizes.

With over 3 million total mobile credentials provisioned at nearly 150 schools, Transact + CBORD’s scalable digital ID solutions proves the technology is no longer reserved for large universities. Benefits for schools of any size include:

  • Streamlined operations: significantly reduce the manual work and operational complexity of credentialing, payments, access control, event management, and parcel services by consolidating to a single, cloud-based system.
  • Enhanced security: stronger access control with the ability to instantly assign or revoke door access permissions across campus or remotely lock down any connected building on campus from a desktop or mobile device.
  • Improved student experience: students enjoy seamless, contactless access to dining, buildings, vending, laundry and events, as well as payment capabilities and stored value, all from the convenience of a smartphone or wearable device.
  • Sustainability: Reduces reliance on physical plastic cards, significantly minimizing waste and supporting environmentally conscious campus practices.

“NEMCC is the ideal partner for this milestone: eager to innovate, clear about their needs, and committed to improving the experiences of their students, faculty and staff,” says Rasheed Behrooznia, EVP and GM of Campus ID and Commerce for Transact + CBORD. “This deployment on our IDX platform proves that advanced mobile credential technology can be successfully scaled for institutions of any size, with or without large residential populations.”
