About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Semtech Showcases Public Safety 5G Router Portfolio at IACP 2025

AirLink® router lineup addresses bandwidth demands for body cameras, drones and real-time analytics

Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading provider of high-performance semiconductor, Internet of Things (IoT) systems and cloud connectivity service solutions, will demonstrate its growing family of 5G routers with network slicing capabilities at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference and Exposition 2025, from October 18-21 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

AirLink® router lineup addresses bandwidth demands for body cameras, drones and real-time analytics

As public safety agencies rapidly adopt data-intensive tools including body cameras, drones and AI-powered analytics, 5G network slicing has emerged as a critical technology to help ensure first responders maintain reliable connectivity, even during periods of network congestion. Two major U.S. carriers recently launched dedicated 5G network slices for first responders—T-Mobile’s T-Priority in February 2025 and Verizon’s Frontline Network Slice in April 2025—underscoring the growing importance of this capability for public safety communications.

Accessing Protected Bandwidth When It Matters Most

Pre-emption and priority access capabilities create dedicated channels for public safety communications designed to remain unaffected by commercial network congestion. This is a critical capability as first responders deploy bandwidth-intensive tools including 4K body cameras, reconnaissance drones and real-time video analytics. Recent events including the 2025 California wildfires and Hurricane Helene demonstrate the importance of reliable connectivity during emergencies.

Semtech’s AirLink XR routers support multiple pre-emption and priority access approaches across all major carriers. This includes 5G Standalone slice-based programs from Verizon Frontline and T-Mobile’s T-Priority, as well as the dedicated core and priority access provided by AT&T’s FirstNet. The routers are FirstNet Trusted®, T-Priority and Verizon Frontline Network slice certified. This multi-carrier, multi-technology approach helps give agencies flexibility in carrier selection while supporting access to dedicated network resources.

“Public safety agencies are at an inflection point—moving from voice-centric communications to data-intensive operations that demand guaranteed bandwidth and ultra-low latency,” said Kinana Hussain, vice president of networking solutions at Semtech. “With both Verizon Frontline and T-Mobile T-Priority now certified for our AirLink routers, we’re helping agencies leverage 5G network slicing as a dedicated communications channel that performs when it matters most—during emergencies when commercial networks are congested.”

Expanded AirLink Portfolio for Public Safety

At IACP 2025, Semtech will showcase its expanded AirLink family of network slice-enabled 5G routers for public safety applications. The recently announced XR80 and XR90 Gen2 routers are optimized for mobile command centers and in-vehicle deployments.

Unlike fragmented approaches requiring integration of discrete components, Semtech’s AirLink router family delivers purpose-built solutions with native network slicing support, advanced mobility reporting, and enterprise-grade security—all managed through a unified cloud platform.

Live Demonstrations at Booth #3714

Semtech will have the following live demonstrations at its booth (#3714 in the Upper Level Exhibit Hall):

  • AI-powered video compression technology that reduces video bandwidth by up to 90% while maintaining crystal-clear video transmission through an integration with Digital Barriers’ EdgeVis solution.
  • Real-time insights on routers deployed, vehicle health and driver behavior via Semtech’s AirLink Management Service (ALMS) remote management platform and Advanced Mobility Reporting.
  • Integration of Semtech’s AirLink routers with leading makers of LMR equipment and ruggedized PCs.

IACP Sponsored Events

Semtech is a sponsor of the Lexipol IACP Experience happening on Oct. 19, 2025, 5-9 p.m. at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Denver. Semtech is also a co-sponsor of the Getac F1® Experience, a social event on Oct. 19, where attendees will have the opportunity to drive an F1 racecar simulator. More details will be available at Semtech’s booth.
