About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Shining a Light on New Investment Opportunities: Small Caps Emerge from the Shadows at the Groundhog Investment Conference

Smaller public U.S. companies have underperformed larger company stocks for the better part of the past decade – but the investment professionals at Emerald Asset Management are seeing the emerging signs of a “Springtime for Small Caps” at their 32nd annual Groundhog Day Investment Forum, coming up on Thursday, February 6th online as an all-event virtual stream. Emerald’s team of analysts and portfolio managers will focus on sector- and industry- specific opportunities as they introduce an exclusive new whitepaper exploring the Springtime for Small Caps theme.

The Forum will kick-off at 10:00am EST with the introduction of the Springtime for Small Caps whitepaper with Emerald’s small-cap growth portfolio managers, and then feature interactive sessions centered around two of the whitepaper’s investment opportunities:

  • Small Cap Opportunities in Life Sciences panel discussion with Emerald’s Life Sciences research team;
  • Small Cap Opportunities in Technology panel discussion focusing on A.I. and other emerging tech trends with Emerald’s Technology research team;

The event will also include an Executive Roundtable as senior corporate executives provide their insights on the year ahead. Panel participants are scheduled to include: Kevin Sterling, CFA, Senior Market Strategist, RXO, Inc. (NYSE: RXO), Scott Staples, CEO, First Advantage Corporation (NASDAQ: FA) and Eric Sprink, President & CEO, Coastal Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: CCB).

“We say that the investment year begins in earnest with our annual Forum centered around our local Pennsylvania tradition of Groundhog Day,” said Emerald Director of Research Joseph W. Garner. “This year our investment team and their whitepaper will give our online audience a different perspective: the overlooked opportunities in small-cap stocks,” he said.

Following the Pennsylvania Groundhog tradition, the company will present “Six Weeks of Emerald” after the February 6th forum, providing additional insights and perspectives each week from Emerald’s investment teams.

“Large cap stocks have had quite a run, but we see the market broadening out with new opportunities at hand,” said Emerald CEO Scott L. Rehr. “Here at Emerald we say that Innovation Starts Small® and we are excited about the emerging trends we see for small-cap investors in 2025,” he said.

Registration and the event details are available on Emerald’s website at

The first Emerald Groundhog Day Investment Forum was held in 1994 and has grown to become a definitive kick-off conference each year for investors focusing on domestic U.S. growth companies.
