About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Render Networks Appoints Former IBM and Nokia Executive Stephen Rose to Chief Executive Officer

The telecom industry veteran will drive Render Networks' next phase of growth as the fiber broadband opportunity booms

Render Networks, a leader in network deployment management software, today announced the appointment of Stephen Rose to Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Rose is a 25-year telecom industry veteran who has previously held executive roles with IBM and Nobel Prize-winning Nokia Bell Labs. At IBM, Rose was initially brought on to grow the organization’s global telecom industry practice, and shortly thereafter, was elevated to oversee the tech giant’s global industry organization, driving multi-billion dollar revenue growth. Rose was the operating partner at Bell Labs Consulting and a member of the Nokia Bell Labs Executive Team, among other executive leadership roles at Nokia.

“Stephen is a recognized leader in the industry, and his deep expertise, combined with a proven track record of scaling high-performing organizations, will be a key asset to Render,” said James Scollay, Chair of the Board at Render Networks. “Render is positioned for unprecedented growth opportunities driven by accelerating fiber deployments and the rapid rise of automation and AI. Stephen’s experience in these areas and his strong leadership will be instrumental in pushing Render into its next stage of expansion and innovation.”

With more fiber set to be deployed in the next five years than ever before, intelligent automation is critical to accelerating network rollouts and reducing costs. Render's robust platform plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by empowering operators and builders to navigate resource constraints, mitigate operational risks, and bring fiber to the market faster.

“I’ve worked across every facet of the industry - from deploying networks in some of the most remote parts of the world to driving industry-leading growth campaigns for AI and autonomous networks,” said Rose. “Render fills a critical gap to digitize network deployment and get to market faster. With fiber expansion at an all-time high, the combination of Render's market-leading software and the exponential impact of data, AI and cloud adoption presents an incredible opportunity. I look forward to leading Render through this next phase of growth and support our clients in their mission to achieve global connectivity and sustainable returns on capital.”

Rose will be attending Connected America 2025 in Dallas, TX, on March 11-12 where he will be engaging with industry leaders to discuss the future of network deployment management. Attendees can visit booth #508 to learn more about how Render is transforming network construction by enabling faster builds, reducing costs, and delivering greater project efficiencies.
