About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

NTT DATA Selected to Modernize the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Cloud Services Environment

NTT DATA, a global digital business and technology services leader, today announced it has been selected by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) to manage the Commonwealth of Virginia’s public cloud services environment. NTT DATA's expertise in cloud modernization will guide VITA’s transition from legacy systems to utilizing the full potential of cloud computing on a unified platform.

NTT DATA is collaborating with Microsoft to digitally transform VITA’s environment, allowing them to effectively deliver modern and secure services to their Virginia customers and end users. In addition, NTT DATA with support from Microsoft will manage VITA's cloud infrastructure, integrating current applications onto Microsoft Azure and create new cloud-based applications for the Commonwealth's agencies.

"VITA's recognition of the importance of modernizing IT infrastructure and utilizing cloud services is a testament to their forward-thinking approach to digital workplace transformation,” said Kevin Zavada, Division President, Public Sector, NTT DATA North America. "We are committed to leveraging our expertise in collaboration with Microsoft to help VITA achieve their goals and help create a seamless experience for the residents of Virginia."

This collaborative approach to VITA’s cloud adoption and integration will support broad benefits that include:

  • Enhanced security: NTT DATA will create a secure environment for VITA by upgrading their infrastructure to meet Sec530 standards. VITA can use Azure to monitor, identify, and prevent threats before they cause issues. This approach minimizes disruptions, protects data, and boosts security.
  • Improved agility and flexibility: Azure offers flexible resources that adjust to changing needs, making it easy to manage workloads without impacting performance. Automating applications lets agency staff focus on complex tasks, resulting in quicker responses and better citizen experiences.
  • Reduced costs: NTT DATA's consumption-based services model cuts costs as service use grows on Azure. This model promotes cost efficiency and greater Azure usage by government agencies. It also allows other states to work with NTT DATA for cloud services.
  • Increased transparency and efficiency: The NTT DATA dashboard for Azure offers real-time data monitoring, cost management, and resource optimization for agencies. The dashboard encourages transparency across agencies while promoting cost-effective operations and improving security. In addition, maintenance tasks can be managed quickly and collaboratively to support smooth operations.

“Our cloud transformation efforts will unlock more opportunities to innovate and transform government services for Virginians and save valuable public dollars. We’re excited to partner with NTT DATA on this work,” said Robert Osmond, Chief Information Officer of the Commonwealth of Virginia. "With the Commonwealth’s digital infrastructure modernized in cloud technology, Virginians’ growing tech needs can be met now and in the future, securely and efficiently."

"At Microsoft, we are dedicated to empowering government agencies with the tools they need to modernize,” said Mandy Ledford, General Manager, State and Local Government, Microsoft. “Our collaboration with NTT DATA and VITA is a prime example of how Azure can transform public sector IT infrastructure and deliver innovative services to the constituents of Virginia."
