About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Avantax Welcomes Multi-Generational Firm Brazzel Wealth Management, With Approximately $80 Million in Assets Under Administration

Veteran financial advisor Toby Brazzel chooses Avantax to support his rapid-growth goals in a business model conducive to involving his family in the Louisiana-based advisory practice

Avantax, a community of tax-focused financial professionals within Cetera, welcomes veteran financial advisor Toby Brazzel, who joined Avantax because he wanted a financial services partner who would help him build a multi-generational advisory practice in which his son and wife could be more actively and directly involved.

Brazzel transferred to Avantax from Allstate Financial Services, LLC, where he had approximately $80 million in client assets under administration as of August 2024*.

A veteran financial professional of more than 28 years, Brazzel decided to join Avantax to support his aggressive-growth goals and because he wanted to involve his family more fully in the business, including his wife, Kelli, and their son, Ricky. Family is central to the Brazzels, who have eight children, including five adopted from around the world.

“I knew I could work well within the Avantax model, plus it’s more flexible in terms of how my family can work within the firm to help our clients. My wife’s gift is operations and marketing, and my son’s skills complement mine enabling me to sit with clients to help map out their future,” Brazzel said. “People do business with me because they trust me. Working together as a family, we can be even more available and accessible to clients. What makes me happy isn’t the financial gratification, it’s seeing that clients understand that I’m working as a fiduciary in their best interest to help them.”

Brazzel said he’s focused on growing his business within and well beyond his home state of Louisiana. Avantax’s many growth avenues attracted Brazzel, but none more than partnering with tax professionals through the Avantax Strategic Partnership Program.

“Other firms have ways of partnering, but Avantax is a lot farther down the road with its Strategic Partnership Program, and I clearly see significant growth opportunities with Avantax,” Brazzel said. “Whether it's growth strategies or more routine things, what I can say unequivocally is that I appreciate the spirit in which the people at Avantax are willing to help me. It’s their positive attitude and willingness to say, ‘I don’t have an answer, but I’ll get one,’ and then they do what they say. Among the many things I enjoy about Avantax is feeling that my business is important to Avantax, and they really want me here.”

Avantax Wealth Management President Andy Watts welcomed the Brazzel family saying: “I couldn’t be happier to have Toby, Kelli and Ricky join the Avantax Community. Their positive outlook, dedication to serving clients and enthusiasm for growing a multi-generational advisory practice is energizing. I’m eager to see Toby expand his own centers of influence while growing his firm in partnership with Avantax and our deep network of tax professionals.”
