American Water Charitable Foundation Highlights 2024 Community Impact Report

Over $5 Million Donated to Support and Strengthen Communities

The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced today it awarded over $5 million to organizations across the U.S., supporting communities served by American Water in the 2024 Community Impact Report.

Through the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, $4.7 million was awarded to over 400 eligible non-profit organizations across the country. Additionally, over 4,000 employees participated in the Foundation’s Employee Matching Gift and Rewards Programs with over $700,000 donated to more than 2,300 charities.

Following are a few examples of how the American Water Charitable Foundation is making a difference nationwide:

  • “The National Urban League is proud to work with forward-thinking partners like the American Water Charitable Foundation,” said Marc H. Morial, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Urban League. “Creating economic opportunity for historically underserved Americans helps to build a stronger, more resilient economy for everyone.”
  • "The American Water Charitable Foundation's support will further our efforts to address water quality and litter issues in our watersheds, particularly in our urban neighborhoods. Reaching out through environmental education and community programs, we hope to better open the doors to nature in our Chattanooga Creek watershed," said WaterWays Executive Director, Mary Beth Sutton.   • “We are thrilled to partner with the American Water Charitable Foundation and introduce Downtown Camden’s first-ever public recycling program and expand dog waste stations throughout the community,” said Ray Romo, Director of Operations, Camden Special Services District. “This initiative will enhance the capacity of our Clean & Safe program, reduce landfill waste, support responsible pet ownership, and improve the overall quality of life in Downtown Camden.”

Since 2012, the American Water Charitable Foundation has invested over $20 million in funding through grants and matching gifts that are important to American Water’s employees and positively impact the communities where they live and work.
