About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

The Institutes Knowledge Group Named SITE Award Winner for Outstanding Leadership and Support for a Third Time

The Institutes Knowledge Group—who helps professionals build foundational, technical, and leadership skills to stay ahead of evolving trends in risk management and insurance—is recognized for providing exceptional support to SITE, its members, and RMI professionals as a whole.

The Institutes Knowledge Group has once again been recognized for doing what they do best: educating and elevating the skillsets of those in the risk management and insurance disciplines. At the 2025 Society of Insurance Trainers and Educators (SITE) Conference, The Institutes Knowledge Group was presented with the prestigious SITE Corporate Award, which recognizes one organization that has shown unmatched dedication, leadership and generosity toward advancing training and education in insurance.

This marks the third time The Institutes Knowledge Group has received this honor since the award's inception in 1992. In that time, the organization developed a strong partnership with SITE based on their shared goals of helping RMI professionals develop the skills and expertise needed to create a more resilient world. This includes providing multiple members to sit on SITE’s board, including Diane Hanlon, Head of Sales and Market Development, and Eric Czerwin, Regional Sales Account Executive. Notably, The Institutes Knowledge Group helped SITE establish their Mentor program by facilitating its creation and providing management of the program, which empowers seasoned professionals to mentor new trainers in risk management and insurance.

“This award is deeply meaningful because it reflects the relationships and common goals we’ve built with SITE over many years,” said Adam Carmichael, CPCU, president of The Institutes Knowledge Group. “We’re honored to stand alongside an organization that’s as committed as we are to championing professional development in insurance.”

The Institutes Knowledge Group is dedicated to empowering those in risk management and insurance to help others in need through professional development. By supporting individuals with their educational journey, assisting companies in developing effective learning and development programs, or building lasting partnerships with organizations like SITE, their commitment is clear.

"The SITE Corporate Award is presented to member firms that demonstrate outstanding support for our organization and its members,” said Michael Koscielny, president of the Society of Insurance Trainers & Educators. “The Institutes have consistently exemplified this commitment: providing four team members to serve on our board, sponsoring speakers through generous financial support, and—most importantly—co-authoring our Train the Trainer program, the cornerstone of SITE's foundational training."

As the risk management and insurance landscape continues to evolve, there is an ever-growing need for comprehensive training and education. That's why The Institutes will continue to support learning and development goals for those interested in RMI with their practical Institutes Designations, online courses, leadership education programs, and more now and into the future.
