About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

FLOR Partners With Brian Patrick Flynn to Transform Mid-Century Modern Ranch

Area Rugs Add Color, Help Define Space for Designer’s Growing Family

FLOR®, the high-end area rug brand for homes, offices, and every space in between, today announces its collaboration with interior designer and TV personality Brian Patrick Flynn to update his mid-century modern home using area rugs that blend style and function. The partnership coincides with the launch of the brand’s Summer Collection, offering chic, versatile looks made to spark connection and memories.

Inspired by his new life chapter as a father, Flynn is making intentional design upgrades to “kid-proof” his spaces without compromising on style. When considering how to add soft surfaces into his home that originally featured all hardwood, he looked to FLOR to give each space its own personality, while ensuring the designs can stand up to everyday spills and adventures.

This partnership between FLOR and Flynn is not the first. The two collaborated in 2004 when Flynn was early in his career as an interior designer. “At that time, an area rug made of carpet tiles was such an innovative concept that no one else was doing. And FLOR managed to do that while still offering a range of colors, patterns, textures, and more,” says Flynn, Founder of Flynnside Out Productions. “What I love about this collaboration with FLOR is that now, 21 years later, I’m able to work with the brand again and build upon my design mentality that interiors can be beautiful and practical.”

Flynn’s design thinking and style have shifted since welcoming his daughter. As a result, he turned towards softer accent pieces, rounded edges, and upholstery made with performance fabric, while sticking with his love for mid-century modern design and color.

“For this project, we’re experimenting with all wall-to-wall designs like they would in 1965. We went with a variety of custom designs, working with FLOR’s design team to create the perfect rug for each space,” said Flynn. “Every time you look down, you’ll be transitioning from one color to another pattern. My daughter’s playroom will feature a custom buffalo checkered design with blues, purples, and whites, while our nursery will embrace more of a muted design with a blush color palette.”

New Styles Made to Tell a Story

The latest Summer Collection launches from FLOR are designed to make a statement. The styles balance subtle neutrals and playful patterns, adding personality to any space. The new launches include:

  • Jute Box: This textured, neutral jute-inspired area rug lays a strong, stylish foundation for any space. Available in Jute and Bone.
  • Swirling Around: Looking to add visual flair? This style has you covered. Designed to bring movement to the floor through playful, rounded visuals, it is available in Chalk/Silver, Cloud/Silver, and Tundra/Gold.
  • Rooted Comfort: True to its name, this natural, two-toned area rug style brings endless comfort and beauty. Made to both ground and elevate a space, it’s available in Fawn and Pigeon.

“Our Summer Catalog launches are meant to inspire design creativity. For the customer looking to keep it neutral or thinking outside-the-box, we have the rug styles to make it happen,” said James Pope, General Manager at FLOR. “Additionally, our complimentary design service is made for bringing your vision to reality. From big ideas to small details, our expert designers help find and style a rug that fits your design personality.”

All of the Summer Collection launches are available now for purchase on FLOR’s website.
