About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Citrix Simplifies Virtual Desktop Management with Support for Nutanix Prism Central on Nutanix Cloud Platform

Nutanix AHV Hypervisor integration offers customers enterprise-grade scalability, streamlined virtual desktop management and reduced costs

Citrix, a business unit of Cloud Software Group, Inc., today announced the general availability and support for multi-cluster environments hosted on the Prism Central solution on Nutanix Cloud Platform powered by the AHV hypervisor from Nutanix, a leader in hybrid multicloud computing. Citrix also announced NetScaler VPX support for Nutanix AHV on Nutanix Cloud Platform. The combination of Citrix and Nutanix solutions offers customers enhanced resiliency and brings enterprise-grade scalability to customers looking to broaden their virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and secure application delivery environments.

The Citrix native integration with Nutanix Prism Central on AHV offers a more flexible and comprehensive enterprise-level platform for delivering Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops™ across a variety of hybrid multicloud environments, reducing single-vendor lock-in.

“Citrix support for Nutanix Prism Central improves the user experience across customers’ virtual desktop environments, improving productivity through greater agility, scalability and efficiency while the NetScaler support on AHV provides a high performing ADC & security solution,” said Abhilash Verma, Chief Product Officer at Citrix. “This centralized approach simplifies operations, automates workflows and ensures consistent policy enforcement to save time, reduce operational costs and secure the work.”

Key benefits of integrating Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix Desktops as a Service with Nutanix Prism Central on AHV include:

  • Centralized Management: Simplified management of Nutanix AHV multi-clusters and scaled images, enhancing scalability and efficiency
  • Hybrid and Multicloud Integration: Ability to extend Citrix deployment to Nutanix hybrid multicloud environments and seamlessly integrate across different cloud platforms, including Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Azure and AWS
  • Native Integration and Compatibility: Easy migration and backward compatibility simplify operations and ensure smooth transitions within existing infrastructure
  • Scaled Image Management: Enables cross-cluster master image sharing via AHV versioned templates, improving resource utilization
  • Hypervisor Flexibility: Ability to deliver desktops from any infrastructure, whether on-premises, in the cloud or hybrid environments

"Today's hybrid work environment and evolving cybersecurity threats demand robust, modern digital workspaces and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI)," said Thomas Cornely, SVP Product Management at Nutanix. "With Citrix native support for Nutanix Cloud Platform powered by AHV Hypervisor, customers can deploy VDI and NetScaler VPX in their on-premises data center or across public cloud providers at any scale —and manage it all through a unified platform that provides consistency, security and control. The Citrix and Nutanix partnership offers more choice and greater operational simplicity."
