About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Forescout, a global cybersecurity leader, today announced the appointment of Robert J. Skinner, USAF, retired, and cybersecurity and risk advisors, Michael Cunningham and Chase Cunningham to its Board of Advisors. Amid rising challenges in securing OT, IT, IoT, and IoMT systems, these appointments underscore Forescout’s commitment to safeguarding enterprise operations and protecting the integrity of today’s most essential and interconnected systems.

Dr. Chase Cunningham also known as “Dr. Zero Trust”, is a globally recognized authority in cybersecurity strategy, known for his creation of the Zero Trust eXtended (ZTX) framework. Dr. Chase Cunningham previously served as Chief Security Officer at Ericom Software and as Principal Analyst at Forrester, where he tracked and advised on all aspects of enterprise security, including zero trust trends, technologies, and frameworks. In addition to his executive accomplishments, Dr. Cunningham advises senior leaders within the U.S. Department of Defense and international government organizations to help shape the evolution of cybersecurity policies and national defense strategies.

Michael Cunningham is a seasoned cybersecurity executive with over 20 years of experience protecting enterprise environments and driving strategic resilience across Fortune 500 companies. He has led enterprise security programs at industry giants like The Home Depot, First Data (now Fiserv), and most recently as the first Chief Information Security Officer at Graphic Packaging International, where he built the company’s first global cybersecurity program. Through his advisory work at Cunningham Jr & Company and as a member of Forescout’s Board of Advisors, Michael brings a business-aligned perspective on cyber risk, digital transformation, and how to secure growth.

Robert J. Skinner, USAF, Retired brings nearly four decades of experience leading complex and diverse organizations at every level from tactical to strategic, including overseas deployments. Most recently, he served as the Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and Commander of the Joint Force Headquarters-Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DoDIN), where he led a joint force of nearly 20,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel in directing, delivering, managing, operating, securing and protecting a multi-billion dollar IT, communications and cyber environment to enable the nation’s most critical missions.

"Cybersecurity is no longer about isolated incidents or theoretical risks; it’s about protecting the real-world systems that power our daily lives," said Barry Mainz, CEO of Forescout. "Dr. Chase Cunningham, Michael Cunningham, and Robert Skinner have each shaped the front lines of cybersecurity, whether in defense, enterprise strategy, or Zero Trust.
