About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Ouster BlueCity Expanding to Over 100 Intersections in Utah to Improve Roadway Safety and Congestion

  • Econolite awarded expanded contract from Utah Department of Transportation to further deploy Ouster BlueCity following success of initial deployment at over a dozen intersections

Ouster, Inc. (Nasdaq: OUST) (“Ouster” or the “Company”), a global leader in high-performance lidar sensors and intelligent software solutions that bring Physical AI to life, announced today that Econolite, a trusted leader in intelligent traffic management solutions, was awarded a contract from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) that is anticipated to expand the Ouster BlueCity traffic management solution to over one hundred intersections in Utah.

The expansion award follows a real-world assessment of available detection systems, the success of an initial deployment at over a dozen intersections earlier this year, and a five-year contract between Econolite and UDOT to equip street corners with a dynamic lidar-based detection system. Ouster BlueCity integrates seamlessly with UDOT’s existing traffic signal system, including Econolite Cobalt® traffic signal controllers and EOS firmware, offering dynamic traffic signal interventions that improve safety for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Econolite plans to expand the solution to intersections and roadways across Cedar City, Ogden, Orem, and Salt Lake City to start.

Ouster Blue City combines 3D digital lidar with perception software for real-time, multimodal traffic signal actuation and analytics, improving safety and efficiency while protecting the community’s privacy. Ouster’s proprietary deep learning AI perception model has been trained on 4 million labeled objects collected from sites encompassing diverse traffic patterns, intersection designs, and environmental conditions, boosting detection accuracy and safety across hundreds of roadways. Leveraging NVIDIA’s high-performance accelerated computing technology, Ouster BlueCity processes vast amounts of 3D lidar data, delivering low-latency object detection, classification, and tracking to improve signal timings and reduce congestion, as well as to support V2X communications and other use-cases such as near-miss detection and wrong-way driving.

“The rapid expansion of Ouster BlueCity across Utah, following its initial deployment this spring, highlights the traffic efficiency and safety benefits of the system,” said Ouster CEO Angus Pacala. “Ouster BlueCity is already bringing Physical AI to smart cities around the world, with well over 400 booked and deployed sites across the globe. With hundreds of thousands of signalized intersections in the United States alone, its success is just beginning.”

“Econolite is proud to be a long-time UDOT partner in helping modernize Utah’s transportation infrastructure,” said Jim Madden, Econolite Vice President of U.S. Sales. “The situational awareness benefits of combining Ouster BlueCity with Econolite’s Cobalt controllers are groundbreaking. Facilitating UDOT’s ability to gather real-time insights into traffic flow, road user behavior, and potential safety risks while enabling dynamic traffic signal control is truly transformative. We look forward to continuing this important ITS work with Ouster and UDOT.”

Ouster BlueCity is the first lidar traffic solution to be NEMA TS2 certified with Buy America(n) compliant lidar as a detection system for traffic actuation. Ouster’s digital lidar is also NDAA compliant. For more information, visit: www.ouster.com/bluecity.
