About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

A ceremony was held on August 7th with landowner Keihan Real Estate, an integrated developer built upon the foundation of Keihan’s 100+ year history in the railway business. The Keihan group, spearheaded by Keihan Real Estate, is a corporate group consisting of 50 companies and is developing its core business in the four fields of transportation, real estate, retail distribution, and leisure/service.

This expansion milestone follows the announcement in January 2025 of EdgeConneX first project in Japan, a 200MW facility scheduled to begin construction in early 2026 and is expected to open its first phase by the fourth quarter of 2027.

Within just over six months since its market entry in January 2025, EdgeConneX now boasts a combined campus capacity of 350MW, spread across two advanced data center projects. Both sites are strategically positioned to meet the surging demand for Cloud and high-density AI infrastructure in one of the fastest-growing digital markets in Asia. Upon completion, EdgeConneX will be one of the largest data centers in the Kansai area, further solidifying Osaka's position as a hub for cutting-edge IT infrastructure, in line with the country's vision for a Digital Garden City Nation.

"We are thrilled to see our vision for Japan taking shape so quickly, with substantial milestones already achieved. With these two facilities, we aim not only to address the increasing need for advanced IT infrastructure but also to solidify Japan's position as a global leader in Cloud and AI technologies. This is an exciting chapter for EdgeConneX and the broader Osaka ecosystem." - Masahiko Inoue, Head of Japan for EdgeConneX

EdgeConneX remains committed to achieving carbon, waste, and water neutrality by 2030, with all its facilities currently powered by renewable energy. The company's efforts have earned it the top ranking in Structure Research's 2023 and 2024 State of Environmental Impact reports in both efficiency and transparency categories.

"Our rapid expansion in Japan signifies our commitment to supporting the country's digital transformation. By blending world-class technology, sustainability, and innovation, EdgeConneX is uniquely positioned to meet the demands of a power-constrained and high-growth market like Japan. These projects are a testament to our ability to deliver scalable, reliable, and environmentally responsible solutions for the AI-driven future." - Sam Lee, Managing Director, Market & Commercial Development for EdgeConneX

Backed by EdgeConneX expertise in AI and next-generation data center design, these facilities are equipped to handle workloads exceeding 600 kW per rack, through the company’s high-density Ingenuity product suite, supporting the most advanced NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel deployments. The strategic location of these facilities in Greater Osaka, combined with Japan's thriving digital economy, positions the country as a critical hub for Cloud and AI providers.
