About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

San Francisco Bay University to Launch New Business Incubator, Innovate Bay

Designed to Advance Startups, Support Founders, and Strengthen Economic Opportunity Across the Bay Area

On September 4, 2025, San Francisco Bay University (SFBU) will launch Innovate Bay, a new on-campus business incubator created to connect student founders, technologists, and first-time entrepreneurs with industry resources, providing the tools, mentorship, and environment to turn bold ideas into viable ventures.

Led by Executive Director Rohan Brown, Innovate Bay will provide structured programming, hands-on experience, and access to a dynamic innovation ecosystem, all from the SFBU campus in Fremont, CA. Along with his role as Executive Director of Innovate Bay, Brown is also Chapter Leader at Startup Grind, a community for people building, working with and investing in startups, headquartered in Fremont, CA.

Innovate Bay is one of many exciting developments that SFBU is in the process of instituting to best position our students and faculty to leverage the latest in technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence, to their advantage,” said Dr. Nicholas Ladany, President, San Francisco Bay University.

SFBU’s new business incubator will stand apart by rejecting the typical demo-day model, instead prioritizing real traction and customer development through workshops, founder programming, and expert mentorship. Designed to prepare founders for the earliest stages of building a startup, program topics include validating business ideas, dividing equity between founders and advisors, corporate structuring & legal 101, and fundraising 101 + pitching fundamentals. Programming will focus on ventures working in IoT (Internet of Things), Blockchain Applications, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Sustainable Logistics & CleanTech and Digital Inclusion & Access Technologies.

Local partners in SFBU’s new business incubator will include the City of Fremont, Fremont Chamber of Commerce, and Startup Grind. Through their affiliations with trailblazing companies at the forefront of AI, advanced technology and next-gen manufacturing, SFBU faculty will support the incubator as advisors and mentors.

“We’re excited to officially launch Innovate Bay on September 4th with a kickoff party on our Fremont campus,” said Brown. “But this moment represents more than just the opening of a physical space — it’s the beginning of a new chapter for innovation. We’re here to connect founders, students, and community partners to real opportunities; to help startups secure their first customers and not just investor meetings.”

Visit SFBU Innovate Bay Launch Party for more information and to RSVP for the September 4th launch event.
