About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Samsara leads the industry in trust and satisfaction for fleet technology providers amongst fleet professionals.

The 2025 Comparison of Fleet Management Technology Providers represents one of the industry’s most intensive reviews of technology provider sentiment and real-world experience. The survey, commissioned by Samsara, gathered insights from 521 qualified U.S. commercial fleet professionals, all of whom hold decision-making roles with significant impact on safety, efficiency, and operational performance. A large majority (68%) of respondents oversee fleets with more than 50 commercial vehicles, and over one-fifth (22%) manage fleets exceeding 500 vehicles—underscoring a strong representation of large-scale operators in the sample.

With more than 70% of consumer goods delivered by truck, fleet managers are rapidly adopting new technology to meet urgent business challenges. Providers that combine best-in-class support with real operational impact—like Samsara—are winning the trust and loyalty of fleet professionals nationwide. The survey underscores that what matters most for decision-makers is support and service, coupled with a strong track record of innovations that deliver safety, savings, and measurable value.

“Samsara isn’t just a platform—it’s a trusted partner,” said Meagen Eisenberg, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsara. “Our customers demand reliability, advanced insights, and user-friendly technology that delivers real savings and smarter operations. Most importantly, Samsara is dedicated to bringing every frontline worker home safely. We’re proud to set the industry standard for support, service, and innovation in a sector that keeps the world moving.”

Key findings include:

  • When evaluating technology providers, fleet managers overwhelmingly prioritize support and customer service:
    • 85% of respondents rated this “extremely or very important”, making it the single most crucial factor in their purchasing decisions
  • Decision-makers place strong emphasis (rated “extremely” or “very important”) on a range of AI and technology features:
    • Asset tracking, theft, and loss prevention: nearly 80%
    • Driver app quality and ease: nearly 80%
    • Safety scoring and coaching: +70%
    • Predictive maintenance capabilities: 65%
    • In-cab AI safety alerts: nearly 60%
  • Fuel costs and driver shortages rank as industry’s most pressing challenges:
    • Fuel costs remain the top concern for 32% of survey participants, with the burden felt even more acutely among smaller fleets (40%)
    • Driver shortages and recruiting and training employees also rank among the biggest obstacles facing fleet leaders in 2025.

    • Driver retention: 25% for larger fleets; 12% for smaller fleets

    • Overall Satisfaction: Samsara also leads in overall satisfaction, with 84% of its users satisfied or very satisfied.
    • Brand Awareness: Samsara ranked No. 1 in both top-of-mind and overall brand awareness—proving the most widely recognized brand in the study.
    • Recommendation: 90% of current Samsara users and/or those familiar with the brand are likely to recommend the company to a colleague.

“Our research shows that within a crowded market of technology providers, not all deliver the same level of quality,” says Paul Mattioli, EVP of Endeavor Business Intelligence. “Choosing the right platform is a long-term strategic decision that will determine whether businesses get the outcomes they need. This study makes clear that fleet leaders need technology that works reliably every day, provides clear insights, and improves both safety and efficiency in measurable ways.”
