About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Sidney City Schools Adopts PowerSchool Solutions to Strengthen College and Career Readiness

Ohio district implements PowerSchool Naviance CCLR and PowerBuddy to support future-focused planning for students ahead of the new school year

PowerSchool, a leading provider of cloud-based software for K-12 education, today announced that Sidney City Schools (SCS), a public school district in Ohio, has selected PowerSchool Naviance™ CCLR, and PowerBuddy™ for College and Career, to enhance its college, career, and life readiness programming. The district is launching these solutions in time for the upcoming school year to provide students with personalized support as they explore future pathways and build personalized plans for lifelong growth and success.

SCS will implement the newly enhanced Naviance CCLR, which features expanded career exploration tools and integrated work-based learning capabilities. The district will also leverage PowerBuddy for College & Career, an AI-powered assistant embedded within Naviance that delivers real-time, personalized guidance to students. PowerBuddy helps students discover work-based opportunities, college events, and scholarships, while supporting staff with step-by-step guidance, streamlined reporting, and smart workflows all within a modernized, intuitive platform.

The district selected these college and career readiness tools to replace its previous platform, citing PowerSchool’s unified approach, robust career tools, and future-focused roadmap as key drivers of the decision.

“We selected PowerSchool Naviance CCLR for its extensive features, particularly the work-based learning modules and its emphasis on career readiness,” said Stacy Barker, assistant superintendent at Sidney City Schools. “This initiative is designed to benefit the students at Sidney City Schools, especially as the state encourages schools to enhance preparation for success after high school. By focusing on both college and career readiness, Naviance will ensure that our students have access to valuable opportunities along with all the wonderful features that PowerBuddy has to offer.”

Used by over eight million students and implemented in 35% of U.S. high schools, Naviance CCLR empowers students to explore colleges, careers, and life goals through personalized, data-driven insights. Recent enhancements introduce robust work-based learning features, including internships and apprenticeships, all within a secure school-managed environment. Additional upgrades include AI-generated letters of recommendation, expanded career profiles, and enhanced compliance and reporting capabilities to help districts meet state-aligned mandates and fulfill Perkins V requirements.

Sidney City Schools serves approximately 3,300 PreK-12 students across the communities of Sidney, Port Jefferson, and Maplewood in Shelby County, Ohio. In addition to Naviance CCLR and PowerBuddy, Sidney City Schools also purchased PowerSchool Student Analytics and PowerSchool MTSS to further support data-driven decision-making and targeted student interventions.
