About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

“Unlocking the power of AI is not just about adopting new tools, it’s about transforming how we serve our customers, operate our systems, and lead the energy industry,” said Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda. “This summit reflects our belief that collaboration with world-class technology partners is essential to building a smarter and more resilient energy future.”

The two-day event included representatives from: Accenture, Amazon Web Services, Convey, Deloitte, ESRI, EY, Hitachi Energy, IBM, Iberdrola Innovation Middle East, Microsoft, NTT Data, SAP, Schneider Electric, and Wipro. Partners hosted a series of demo sessions known as TechShows to demonstrate their latest digital products and services. These solutions, incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics, were analyzed for a variety of use cases to solve challenges across the energy industry, focusing on customer service, operations and smart grids, and power production.

“Avangrid’s annual Digital Summit showcases our dedication to pioneering and supporting AI-driven innovation and shaping the future of modern utilities and power generation,” said Nelly Jefferson, Avangrid Chief Information Officer. “Technology is no longer a tool, but the backbone of our operations, enabling smarter and faster decisions that bring us to a more resilient energy landscape.”

"Avangrid’s Digital Summit provides an essential platform to showcase these advances and exchange ideas with leading technology partners. At Iberdrola Innovation Middle East, we are delivering digital solutions that help the Iberdrola Group and its partners make networks more efficient, sustainable, and resilient. With the launch of East-West Digital by Iberdrola earlier this year, we are taking this ambition further, expanding AI-powered products and solutions that strengthen networks and accelerate the electrification of the economy worldwide”, said Santiago Bañales Lopez, Managing Director of Iberdrola Innovation Middle East, and CEO of East-West Digital.

Avangrid is a recognized energy innovator and invests heavily in energy innovation projects. These investments have produced results across Avangrid’s business. For example:

  • Avangrid launched a Generative AI solution, First Time Right Autopilot, which puts the power of AI into the hands of field technicians to help them efficiently identity and resolve issues on wind turbines. This means turbines are brought back into service more quickly, ensuring power facilities continue to generate electricity for homes, businesses, and industry across the country.
  • Avangrid network Central Maine Power (CMP) is using advanced technology in special vehicles and drones to map out distribution lines, detect possible risks, and support reliability and safety of the grid. For the first time, the company will be able to quickly assess images of more than 24,000 miles of line to provide necessary improvements and strengthen grid infrastructure.
  • New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E), Avangrid networks, enhanced their AI assistant, Ava, to provide customers with faster and more accurate estimated restoration times during power outages. These are part of a broader effort to improve customer experience by streamlining access to outage information while decreasing wait times for the call center.

“Accenture is delighted to once again participate in the Avangrid Tech Shows. This annual event is a valued opportunity to share the latest utilities and energy insights through a technology lens, and to engage with Avangrid’s leadership in one dynamic forum,” said Sandeep Ganesh, Accenture, Avangrid Client Account Lead.
