About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

XCharge North America’s GridLink Receives Honorable Mention in Fast Company’s 2025 Innovation by Design Awards

Honorees include nearly 300 projects, products, and services from The New York Times, Jones Knowles Ritchie, Adobe, and others

XCharge North America (“XCharge NA”), the North American subsidiary of XCHG Limited (NASDAQ: XCH) and a provider of high-power EV charging and battery-integrated solutions designed to strengthen the North American electrical grid, is proud to announce that its battery-integrated DC fast charging solution, GridLink, received an Honorable Mention in the Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards for 2025 in the Best Design North America category. The news comes on the heels of XCharge North America’s parent company XCHG Limited also announcing the opening of its new technical center in Madrid today.

Now in its 14th year, the Innovation by Design Awards celebrate the designers and businesses addressing today’s most urgent challenges while anticipating the problems of tomorrow. The program is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the industry, spotlighting work that exemplifies originality, beauty, sustainability, user insight, cultural significance, and measurable business impact.

XCharge NA’s GridLink is a groundbreaking, battery-integrated DC fast charging solution that fundamentally rethinks EV charging. GridLink breaks through the limitations of traditional charging technology by acting as both a high-power EV charger and a distributed energy resource that strengthens the grid while reducing emissions. As electric vehicle adoption accelerates in North America and demand on the grid rises, GridLink’s unique technology helps offset grid demand and enhance resilience and flexibility, bolstering existing energy infrastructure.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by Fast Company for our innovative design improving EV charging infrastructure and grid resiliency. When we set out to create GridLink, we wanted a solution that both looked appealing and delivered a reliable, innovative, user-friendly experience so drivers would feel confident when plugging in,” said Aatish Patel, president and co-founder of XCharge NA. “This award for GridLink is a testament to the significant impact we’ve had in such a short amount of time and is fuel to continue iterating and refining our products. In less than one year since its launch, we’ve deployed dozens of chargers across North America, and look forward to expanding our innovative GridLink technology both nationwide and globally.”

Honorees were selected by a panel of leading designers, business executives from leading organizations, and Fast Company editors.

“The Innovation by Design Awards celebrate bold ideas and work that proves design is a true driver of business and societal progress. This year’s honorees show how creative thinking can unlock new markets, build stronger organizations, and deliver meaningful impact at scale,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company.
