About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

RXO Releases New Insights on Industry-Specific KPIs Within Logistics

By: via Business Wire

RXO (NYSE: RXO), a leading provider of asset-light transportation solutions, released new, data-backed insights that compare how hundreds of supply chain experts across different industries track and leverage their transportation data as key performance indicators (KPIs).

In this new report, Logistics KPI Benchmarks, By Industry, businesses can now access an overview of top logistics KPI trends by industry vertical, as well as deep-dive KPI profiles of automotive, consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, healthcare, manufacturing and retail shippers. This information can help shipping professionals reevaluate and optimize their own KPIs.

These insights expand on the original data from The Logistics Professional’s Guide to KPIs released in February, an independent research study conducted by RXO in collaboration with third-party research firm Qualtrics.

“Understanding how the entire freight market approaches KPIs is an essential foundation, but different industries can have slightly different norms and requirements,” said Ben Steffes, vice president of solutions and strategy at RXO. “Shippers want to know how their direct industry peers are setting and managing their KPI benchmarks. Now, with data from hundreds of companies, they can see exactly where other shippers in their vertical are setting the standard.”

Insights from these new, industry-specific breakdowns include:

  • Food and beverage shippers are the biggest believers in KPIs — A large majority of shippers believe KPIs are an essential part of logistics management, but at 96% of respondents, food and beverage shippers were the biggest believers.
  • Healthcare shippers are the most advanced at KPI tracking When asked to rate their ability at tracking supply chain metrics, healthcare was the most likely to rate themselves as advanced (58% of respondents, which was 14% ahead of the average).
  • Retail and Healthcare shippers are the most likely to use AI 74% of healthcare shippers and 73% of retail shippers stated that they’re using AI in their logistics operations, the highest reported usage.
  • Automotive and CPG shippers are getting tougher on their carriers — 72% of automotive and 69% of consumer packaged goods (CPG) respondents said they’ve raised their carrier KPI standards in response to increasing consumer expectations, making them the only two industries above the average (60%).
  • Manufacturers are the most demanding — With an average of 39% of respondents whose expectations exceeded industry standards across core logistics KPIs (on-time pick up, on-time delivery, primary tender acceptance, shipment lead time, payment terms, and demand forecasting accuracy), manufacturers were the most demanding industry.

“Managing supply chain data is incredibly important for shippers, regardless of industry. Modern logistics professionals can check their strategies against these profiles as they determine what technologies to use, which metrics to track, where to set benchmarks, and how to leverage data to drive efficiency,” Steffes said.

This original research highlights how RXO is uniquely positioned to curate freight market insights that help shippers and carriers make smarter supply chain decisions.
