About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

5 simple and effective self-care tips

(BPT) - When we have a self-care routine that actually works, we feel better, and it shows. Longtime actress and model Brooke Shields reveals her simple yet effective tricks to effortless beauty and wellness that will have anyone feeling model ready. See below for Brooke's tips, from how she protects her smile, to skincare tricks, to her go-to superfoods, that will automatically up your beauty routine without breaking the bank.

1) Take proactive steps to keep a healthy smile

'Over the years, I've learned to embrace getting older - and part of that is using products that help keep me healthy into the future. No one ever talks about the importance of gum care, but the reality is that gum damage occurs gradually over time and we often don't notice it's happening until it's too late. Gums are the foundation to a healthy smile, so I want to be proactive now to help prevent any issues in the future. To better protect my smile, I updated my daily oral care routine to include new Colgate Gum Renewal toothpaste, which helps repair and reverse early gum issues.

2) Personalize your skincare routine

'There are so many options out there when it comes to skincare, but I really saw a difference in my skin when I simplified my approach and made informed choices based on my personal needs. It's important to know what's in your skincare products and make the right decision for you. Our skin is different and unique, which means we all need different things. For me, I love retinol and vitamin C serums. They're brightening and smoothing, and an absolute staple in my routine.'

3) Maintain a healthy lifestyle

'In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I try and eat as clean as possible. It really helps me feel better mentally and physically! Some of my favorites are berries (especially blackberries), spinach salads and salmon. You're getting so many nutrients through these foods. It's a win-win. I also always make sure to take my vitamins - specifically vitamin C and vitamin D, which gives your immune system an automatic boost.'

4) Take care of your hair

'Taking care of your hair doesn't have to be complex, and you don't always need expensive salon trips to get the results you want. Some of my proactive tips are to avoid over-washing, which can lead to brittle ends, and to use sulfate-free shampoos. I absolutely love sulfate-free products because they're color protectant and don't include any harsh chemicals. Finally, I encourage everyone to embrace their natural look! My hair is naturally wavy so I like to use a little sea salt spray, but for those with straight hair, bonding oils can give you a sleeker, chic look.'

5) Wear sunscreen

'My number one skincare rule is wearing sunscreen every day. I always use lightweight moisturizers with SPF 50 (or higher) which won't interfere with my make-up when on set. The trick is to lather up in sunscreen and reapply every few hours to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and sun damage, which can lead to dark spots, wrinkles, aging, and more. SPF is absolutely crucial for keeping your skin healthy and young, so I never leave home without it.'
