About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Berico Celebrates 100 Years of Unparalleled Service in Greensboro, NC

Greensboro, NC - Berico, a cornerstone of residential and commercial fuel, propane, and HVAC solutions throughout Greensboro, Eden, and Burlington, is proudly celebrating a century of dedication, quality, and innovation. Berico will reach that rare accomplishment of becoming a centennial company on Jan 1, 2024.  Since its establishment in 1924 by founder William Nathan  (W.N.) Berry as Berry Coal Co., Berico has been committed to delivering on its motto, "Always Dependable," by consistently providing dependable fuel delivery, top-notch service, and cutting-edge heating and cooling installations.

Current Berico President, Will Berry, the namesake and great-grandson of the founder does attribute the “Always Dependable” motto to be one of the core reasons for the company's longevity, but he explained the company has guiding principles that keep the company on the right track, “Our Principles of Success include: Teamwork, Innovation, Accountability, Profitability, Safety, Community, Family, Customer Service.  We live by these principles in all actions we take, from customer interaction to hiring practices to supporting our community,” he said, from the company's headquarters on Bessemer Avenue in Greensboro, NC

Over the past 100 years, Berico has continuously expanded its service offerings. The company now provides an array of heating solutions, including propane delivery, home heating oil, kerosene, diesel fuel, gasoline, and lubricant products and has teams of well-trained and experienced HVAC technicians that provide support and service including AC repair as well as furnace installation and service. Furthermore, through its subsidiary, Gateco Oil Co., Berico serves commercial customers throughout the Triad, delivering heating oil, kerosene, gasoline, and diesel fuel.

Berico also maintains a robust Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) sales and service department that caters to a wide range of equipment. This includes everything from oil furnaces, gas and propane furnaces to air conditioners, electric heat pumps, and more. The HVAC department is fully equipped to evaluate home heating and cooling efficiencies, recommending appropriate Air Conditioning or furnace repairs, maintenance plans, and new HVAC unit installations.

In 1960, Berico expanded its operations into the commercial market with the establishment of Gateco Oil Company, which today transports heating oil, diesel fuel, kerosene, and gasoline products to businesses within a 100-mile radius of Greensboro.

In 1981, Berico formed a partnership with S.H. Knight Oil Company Inc. and Carolina Propane, giving rise to Berico of Eden (formerly Carolina Fuels Inc.), serving Rockingham County and surrounding areas, including farmers in these regions.

In 1990, Berico further solidified its standing by partnering with Alamance Oil Company in Burlington, North Carolina. This partnership became Berico of Burlington (formerly Alamance Oil), providing a comprehensive range of residential and commercial services. Today, the Burlington location houses the motor oil and lubricants distribution warehouse.

The acquisition of other companies has continued to fuel the company's expansion up to the present time.  In the last 12 years alone, Berico has acquired approximately 10 companies and has successfully merged their customers and employees into the Berico brand and family.

Throughout its century-long journey, Berico has placed an unwavering emphasis on top-notch customer service. The company values its loyal customers as the heart of its business and maintains a dedicated staff, committed to addressing fuel, heating, and cooling needs personally. According to Human Resources manager Whitney Tobatto, Berico’s success is reflective of the company's commitment;  “This centennial milestone is a testament to Berico's commitment to its customers, employees, and the community,” she said.

As Berico marks its 100-year milestone, it stands as a demonstration to the success achieved by putting the customer first, and Berico plans to continue with this mission for another 100 years.  According to Will Berry, “We are confident that if we stick to our core Principles of Success we can survive and thrive for another 100 years.”
