About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

San Francisco Inventor of Galanter & Jones Heated Furniture Takes Aim at Patio Heater Industry

San Francisco, CA - Heated furniture company Galanter & Jones is leading the charge against the problematic outdoor heater industry. By offering multiple lines of heated chairs and lounges, that are 20 times more effective than traditional patio heaters, the company is disrupting conventional heating methods and tipping the scales to favor consumers and comfort rather than big manufacturers.

“It’s time to rethink outdoor heating,” says co-founder Aaron Jones. “For too long, consumers had only a few options, none of which were great. Propane heaters are terrible for the environment, and they don’t do a good job of helping people get and stay warm. We are proud to set a new standard for quality, efficiency, comfort, and functionality with our heated furniture.”

Patio heaters have been a popular outdoor appliance for decades, but there is a growing awareness of the financial and ecological burden they impose. Critically, propane heaters contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, a significant driver of climate change. Considering the high fuel consumption of these devices, they substantially increase the carbon footprint associated with outdoor activities. Additionally, burning propane produces a host of other nasty chemical compounds, such as sulfur dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, that should not be inhaled

On average, patio heaters also have a startlingly short lifespan, before succumbing to malfunctions. At the same time, many large manufacturers have a system of discontinuing parts to older machine models, which forces consumers into an endless cycle of purchases and breakdowns. Once inoperable, the heaters can't be recycled.

These issues were unavoidable for many years due to a lack of quality alternatives on the market.

When Galanter & Jones launched heated furniture in 2012, their product was the first of its kind. Twelve years later, it remains the leading solution for outdoor heating At the heart of their offerings lies an alternative product that defies convention – an electric patio heater that is ingeniously integrated into a seating solution. This revolutionary approach not only provides warmth but also redefines the very essence of outdoor relaxation. Galanter & Jones' solution is a paradigm shift, emphasizing products that are environmentally friendly, sustainable, and built to stand the test of time.

Over the years, founders and siblings Miranda and Aaron Jones have grown Galanter & Jones into a nationally recognized brand. It has earned several prestigious accolades, including Best Outdoor at Dwell on Design and the Furniture Innovation award at San Francisco Design Week.
