About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

The Heart and Soul of Park Slope: Alan Davidoff

By: Get News

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Brooklyn's Park Slope is a hair salon that's not just a place for a haircut or a root touch up: It's a sanctuary for transformation, a place where you can discover the best version of yourself, a temple of creativity infused with experience, a space that feels like family.

At the helm of this beloved establishment, Slope Suds, is Alan Davidoff—a passionate hairdresser whose story is as rich and layered as the hairstyles he crafts.

Roots and Dreams

Alan's journey began in Queens, where he was raised by Israeli immigrant parents who chased the American Dream with fervor. "They left everything behind for a better life," Alan recalls, his eyes lighting up with pride. "Their sacrifices fuel my passion every single day."

Growing up in a hair salon, Alan was immersed in the art of hairstyling from a young age. His mother, a talented hairdresser, turned their home into a canvas of creativity. "I would get dropped off at the salon every day after school," he remembers. "Teachers would come to get their hair done, and they'd tutor me while they were getting their hair color processed."

At first, Alan didn't realize that being a hairstylist was his true calling; he dreamed of becoming a chef. However, his curiosity about his mother's work soon blossomed into a passion that grew stronger each day. Ultimately, he followed his parents' guidance and pursued a career in hairdressing—one that would lead him to fulfill his destiny.

Dreams Come True

In 2007, Alan joined the Slope Suds team, and in 2019, just before the world shifted dramatically due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he became the owner. "It was a bittersweet moment," he reflects. "Taking over the salon I loved just as the world was changing."

Despite the challenges, Alan's dedication never decreased, it grew stronger.

"I love making people feel great about the way they look," he shares passionately. "To me, hairstylists are artists, and every client is a blank canvas waiting for the perfect chemistry of cut and color."

Building Connections

What sets Alan apart is his innate ability to forge deep connections with his clients. "I build trust with them," he explains. "I improve a part of their life by helping them achieve their hair goals." His warm demeanor and genuine care make each appointment feel like a reunion with a close friend rather than a routine visit to a salon.

"People in Park Slope see us as a neighborhood staple," Alan emphasizes. His commitment to the community is evident; Slope Suds isn't just a salon but a participant in local events, a supporter of schools and charities, and a source of stability in the ever-evolving landscape of Brooklyn.

A Lifelong Learner

Alan's passion for his craft extends beyond the salon. "I'm always learning new things," he asserts. His latest endeavor? Learning to fly a plane—a testament to his belief in pushing boundaries. He remains at the forefront of industry trends and education, ensuring his skills are always sharp and innovative.

His philosophy is simple yet profound: "Always be kind! And don't be cheap with your hair!" This motto encapsulates his approach to both life and business, highlighting the importance of generosity and authenticity.

A Vision for the Future

As Alan looks ahead, he envisions himself mentoring the next generation of hairstylists. "In ten years, I hope to help young people who want to own hair salons," he shares. His dream isn't merely about success; it's about fostering passion and kindness in a fast-paced world.

Alan's American Dream transcends monetary success. "I want to be known for my passion and kindness," he states. "Of course, maybe becoming a famous stylist would be nice too!"

The Pulse of New York City

For Alan, New York City represents limitless opportunities. "It's a great place to network and grow," he declares, embodying the relentless spirit that defines this iconic city. His advice to aspiring dreamers? "Take chances, be aggressive, and surround yourself with smart, wealthy people."

Alan Davidoff is more than a hairdresser; he is an artist and a source of inspiration. In the cozy atmosphere of Slope Suds, he keeps transforming lives one haircut at a time. In a world that often feels disconnected, Alan's passion reminds us of the power of kindness, connection, and the beauty of following our dreams. As long as there are people seeking to express themselves, Alan will be there, scissors in hand, ready to create magic.
