About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

"To me, connection isn’t enough. This is about truly touching lives – making an impact – through authentic and compassionate communication." – Drita Protopapa, MA, MPH
MAPA Translations, Inc. The CEO and founder, Drita Protopapa, is at the core of the company's mission. A child of Albanian and Estonian immigrants, Protopapa grew up in a multilingual and multicultural home, where a deep sense of justice and a passion for communication were cultivated from an early age. Her upbringing instilled in her a profound understanding of barriers that language and culture can create, and a lifelong commitment to giving a voice to those who might otherwise not be heard.

Drita Protopapa’s professional journey is a testament to her dedication to empowering communities. After earning a B.A. in Latin American Studies at Rice University, an M.A. in Brazilian Studies at Brown University, and an M.P.H. in International & Family Health at the UT Houston School of Public Health, she gained extensive experience as a project manager in academic medicine and public health. It was this work that led her to begin "moonlighting" as a medical and community interpreter, where she saw firsthand the critical need for accurate, compassionate, and culturally informed language services. This experience, combined with her entrepreneurial spirit, motivated her to launch MAPA Translations in July of 2007.

MAPA Translations: A Business with a Social Conscience

Since its founding, MAPA Translations has distinguished itself not just as a provider of services, but as a business with a powerful social conscience. The company’s core mission is to empower global communication by providing culturally sensitive and accurate language services. This goes beyond simple translation; it's about helping individuals and organizations "decode and decipher" information to make educated and empowered decisions.

MAPA’s comprehensive suite of services includes document translation, interpreter services, and multilingual voice-over in more than 100 languages. While this offering is extensive, the company’s approach is its true differentiator. MAPA Translations operates with a human-centric model, where every project is handled with empathy and a deep respect for cultural nuance. This is complemented by a forward-thinking approach to ethical innovation, leveraging tools like AI to enhance efficiency and accuracy without compromising the human expertise that is essential for authentic communication. The company's unique "human-in-the-loop" philosophy ensures that technology serves as a powerful partner, allowing its expert linguists to focus on the nuanced, context-driven work that only a human can perform.

MAPA Translations' vision is to solidify its legacy as a global leader in human-centric partnerships. It aims to empower a thousand organizations to expand their reach and impact over the next decade. Guided by a set of actionable core values that include Unwavering Commitment to Quality, Ethical Innovation, and Radical Ownership, the company is built to ensure both its team and its clients are on a clear path to success. MAPA is not just meeting the growing demand for language services; it is defining what it means to connect a global community with integrity and purpose.
