About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Cooling Water Skids Introduced for AI, Data Centers, and Semiconductor Industries by Top Technical Innovator

Atlanta, GA – S&S Technical, Inc., a leading provider of engineered fluid and gas handling solutions, announced the availability of its specialized Cooling Water Skids explicitly designed for artificial intelligence computing, data centers, and semiconductor manufacturing facilities. As these industries experience unprecedented growth and increased thermal demands, S&S Technical's cooling solutions provide mission-critical thermal management for high-performance computing environments.

Meeting Critical Industry Demands

The rapid expansion of AI computing, hyperscale data centers, and semiconductor fabrication has created an urgent need for reliable, scalable cooling solutions. AI server farms, high-performance GPUs, chip etching stations, and densely packed data servers generate significant heat that, if not properly managed, can lead to costly equipment downtime, reduced equipment lifespan, and increased operational expenses.

"As the world races forward with high-powered computing and cutting-edge manufacturing, efficient thermal management is no longer a luxury—it's mission-critical," said Michael Ogburn, representative of S&S Technical. "Our Cooling Water Skids are built to deliver reliable, scalable cooling when it matters most."

Comprehensive Cooling Solutions

S&S Technical's Cooling Water Skid Systems provide precise temperature control for critical equipment, ensuring continuous-duty performance in 24/7 facilities. The systems feature integrated filtration and circulation systems for clean water loops, along with seamless automation and connectivity designed for smart facilities.

Key system capabilities include:

⦁ Precise temperature control for mission-critical equipment

⦁ Continuous 24/7 operation reliability

⦁ Integrated filtration and circulation systems

⦁ Advanced automation and facility connectivity

⦁ Customizable configurations based on specific facility requirements

Advanced Engineering and Integration

Each cooling skid is custom-designed based on multiple factors, including cooling load requirements (BTU/hr or kW), water flow rate and pressure specifications, temperature differential requirements, heat exchanger type selection, plant environment considerations, redundancy requirements, water quality needs, and control philosophy integration.

Standard system components include process and circulation pumps with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), heat exchangers (plate & frame or shell & tube configurations), expansion and buffer tanks, inline filtration units, temperature and pressure transmitters, control and isolation valves, flowmeters, air release assemblies, and stainless steel or carbon steel piping systems.

Integrated Automation and Control Systems

Every S&S cooling skid features a fully integrated local control panel utilizing Allen-Bradley PLCs and touchscreen Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for local operation and diagnostics. The automation package includes PID control loops for flow, pressure, and temperature management, pump sequencing with lead-lag logic, alarm notifications, emergency shutoff capabilities, and data logging functionality.

The systems are designed for seamless integration with existing facility infrastructure through DCS/SCADA connectivity options, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, hardwired I/O, or fiber optic links, as well as OPC protocols for plant-wide visibility.

Full-Service Engineering Partnership

S&S Technical provides comprehensive project support from initial concept through commissioning, including custom design services tailored to specific heat load and facility specifications, in-house fabrication, automation, and piping. This support also includes complete Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), UL-listed control panels with comprehensive documentation, and start-up, training, and field support services.

"We're not just a fabricator—we're a full-scope engineering and integration partner," Ogburn noted. "Our goal is to reduce install time, simplify project coordination, and ensure rock-solid cooling performance from day one."
