About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Switch Automation Receives Accreditation as a RESET® Data Provider to Help Buildings #BreatheBetter

Singapore, Singapore Sep 21, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - Switch Automation, a leader in data-driven building intelligence solutions, is now certified as a RESET® Accredited Data Provider by demonstrating software capabilities to store, handle and display real-time data from building systems.

The RESET® Standard is the world's first sensor-based and performance-driven data standard and certification program for the built environment. RESET Air, one of the modules under the data standard, creates a benchmark for indoor air quality monitoring. With real-time data, building operators and facilities management professionals receive timely insights for proactive decision-making and respond quickly to critical situations.

"People tend to think of environmental impact when we talk about sustainability for the built environment, but it is also important to consider building health and well-being," shared Deb Noller, CEO of Switch Automation.

"On top of being green as a design, we need to think about the role of buildings in the times we live in now. As the workforce starts returning to offices post-pandemic, data quality and transparency will be vital for both occupants and building operators to achieve health and operational resilience. Information is key to being future proof, and we hope to bring that to the table as a RESET Data Provider."

Benefits of RESET Certification

We can survive for weeks without food and days without water. Yet, we can only survive a few minutes without air. Indoor air quality is nuanced, constantly changing, and not accurately detectable by human senses, yet the impact of air quality on health is significant.

Continuous monitoring makes indoor air quality results actionable and helps protect the health of occupants.

Achieving RESET Air Standard can help to:

Establish the process of continuous air quality monitoring in built environments.

Standardise how indoor air quality performance is measured and communicated to make them comparable and benchmarkable.

Advocate awareness and transparency around air quality by reporting the data to project occupants to foster education and promote social equity.

Raise public awareness of indoor air quality and its impacts on environmental and occupant health.

Gamify the data to create incentives for better air quality.

Make swift decisions with real-time data during critical situations, such as severe haze or wildfires to ensure the safety of building occupants.

Mitigate health risks by taking action to improve air quality to prevent a potential spread of infectious illnesses, as well as Sick Building Syndrome.

Becoming a RESET Certified Building

To be RESET Certified for indoor air quality, the building needs to work with an accredited data provider, such as Switch Automation, to deploy accredited air quality monitors to ingest data into the RESET Cloud for analytics and benchmarking.

For a project to achieve RESET Air certification, indoor air quality parameters are tracked through continuous monitoring and calculated into a daily average according to occupancy hours. The building must maintain this set standard within the performance target limits during operation.

Switch Automation will kick off the project by starting a building digitisation journey. Switch Dx3, a digital device discovery tool, will scan for existing building devices and integration opportunities to determine digital readiness.

With a 'single pane of glass' user interface, building operators can tap on Switch Automation's Digital Layer (DL), a cloud-based digital platform, to connect and integrate all data sources within the building, including indoor air quality monitors for RESET projects. Further, building owners and operators can aggregate building data and perform deep analytics, enabling detailed reporting, fault detection, and diagnosis (FDD), predictive maintenance, optimisation, and more.

As a system-agnostic platform that supports both traditional and modern building systems, implementing the digital platform minimises disruptions to the current building infrastructure and operations, helping buildings stay 'business as usual' throughout the onboarding process.

Launch of Regional Headquarters in Singapore

With offices in Denver, Colorado, and Sydney, Australia, Switch Automation continued expansion efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and established regional headquarters in Singapore to support the acceleration of smart cities in the Asia Pacific after a $5M Series A2 fundraising round with lead investor Gaw Capital.

Switch CEO Deb Noller said the Asian expansion is a key part of the company's strategy.

"We see a huge opportunity to own the smart building technology vertical in the APAC region and to use our platform to help commercial real estate owners and developers improve their buildings and start to connect the offices and the infrastructure of the future. What we've built today, and what we're bringing to the market in Singapore, is a world-leading smart building solution that will allow our users to understand their space like never before."

Founded in 2012, the company works with notable clients in the real estate space with large building portfolios, including Oxford Properties in Canada and AMP Capital in Australia, to improve data transparency across distributed assets for optimised operational performance and achieve sustainability targets. Switch Automation is currently connected to over 112M+ sqft (or 10M+ sqm) worth of real estate globally.
