About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Pillir SAP-Integrated Enterprise Asset Management Mobile App Suite Launched

Pillir, a provider of low-code supply-chain solutions, recently announced an entire suite of SAP-integrated and deployment-ready Enterprise Asset Management apps for SAP-centric organizations.

Pillir, a leading provider of low-code supply-chain solutions for SAP-centric organizations, recently announced that their entire suite of Enterprise Asset Management apps is SAP-integrated and deployment-ready. The suite of apps developed for company-wide management solutions aims to decrease mean time to repairs, increase first-time resolution, and enhance overall productivity.

The suite includes five customizable apps—Work Order Management, Inspections and Checklists, Stock Overview, Goods Movement, and Physical Inventory—and provides modern digital asset management solutions, tailored to fit specific company needs.

This latest suite of Pillir mobile apps can be quickly deployed and integrated into existing SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. This allows for real-time data sharing and optimal efficiency while addressing all activities related to asset management and plant maintenance.

Based on industry best practices imparted by the Pillir team, the SAP-integrated apps can be customized to the needs of companies in the oil & gas, manufacturing, logistics, construction, agriculture, pharma, and automotive industries.

Pillir’s EdgeReady Plugin takes an hour or less to install, following which users can access Enterprise Asset Management apps within the SAP environment. The apps integrate with most common business applications out of the box, and Pillir will work with clients to provide any unique integrations needed. Then, working with their SAP provider, companies can have apps up and running, typically in a few days or less.

This application suite can be used on a variety of mobile devices, including rugged tablets and RF-embedded devices. The apps integrate with native device capabilities, such as camera, scanner, and GPS positioning features, to ensure efficiency combined with a seamless user experience.

Some applications in the package are designed for use in any environment regardless of internet connectivity, even for hours at a time. In addition, Enterprise Asset Management apps utilize N+1 high availability, multi-zone, multi-region, cloud-native architecture to enable unlimited scalability.

Businesses that are running SAP ECC or S/4HANA can use the apps regardless of whether they are operating on-premises, in the cloud, or a hybrid environment. One of the advantages of using this application suite is that S/4HANA migration will be transparent to company end-users.

Pillir was founded in 2013 by Vaidya Aiyer. When Vaidya was asked about the company’s beginning, he stated, “We realized we solved for more than just apps. We were helping customers innovate much faster, enabling them to meet business needs more rapidly and helping them to completely eliminate the need to maintain expensive resources.”
