About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Marous Brothers Construction Sets A High Caliber In The Construction Industry, Driven By Passion And A Commitment To Doing Things Right

Adelbert “Chip” Marous, CEO and President of Marous Brothers Construction, has built an empire from the ground up. Founded in 1980 with his brother Scott, Chip turned a small carpentry business into a construction powerhouse. “We had a passion for hard work and dedication and put the pedal to the metal,” recalls Chip.

The Early Years

Raised by two dedicated and hardworking parents, Chip and Scott inherited a strong work ethic. In 1980, they were doing small home renovations and carpentry projects, but by 1983, they were successfully competing for multimillion-dollar, out-of-town projects. They got their big break when they met industry leader Tony Ranallo.

“We started to work together when Chip and Scott were in the field hanging doors,” says Ranallo, the firm’s first commercial client. “They’ve come a long way because they’ve done the work themselves. They’re hands-on people, giving them the control that makes them good at what they do.”

Today, Marous Brothers Construction has surpassed $3 billion in revenue and generates $300 million annually. The firm has completed work in 14 states, with 90% of its projects coming from repeat clients thanks to its exceptional customer service and craftsmanship. The six service groups include the Multi-Family Housing Group, Design/Build Group, Construction Management Group, Special Projects Group, and the two self-performing groups: the Carpentry and Interior Finishes Group and the Site Group.

Innovative, Value-Instilled Processes

Under Chip’s leadership, numerous internal processes have been implemented to streamline operations and maintain competitive advantage. The Marous University program offers in-house training to ensure that all employees are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge. Additionally, the company’s diversified purchasing program helps streamline on-site materials and reduces costs by eliminating third-party markup fees. This progressive thinking keeps the company ahead of industry trends.

The company’s portfolio includes high-profile projects like The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit, Hotel Cleveland, and the Penske Automotive Group Porsche dealership. The team also participates in philanthropic endeavors, including a one-week house build for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Chip attributes their success to their ability to solve problems and think ahead. “We consider ourselves true builders since we’ve done the work ourselves and know how a project develops,” he says. This hands-on experience has been crucial in navigating the challenges they’ve faced.

The family motto, instilled by their father, “do it right or don’t do it at all,” has guided the company’s philosophy. “Doing things right has resulted in an exceptional group of employees, some of whom have worked with us for 25 to over 30 years,” says Chip. This commitment to quality and integrity is why 90% of the firm’s work is for repeat clients.

Looking Forward

“Chip’s exceptional leadership qualities and unwavering ethical standards have not only propelled Marous Brothers Construction to new heights but have also set a benchmark for character within the industry. He is a true leader who leads by example,” says Greg Skoda, CPA, Senior Partner at Marcum LLP.

Chip and Marous Brothers Construction continue to set the standard for excellence in the construction industry, driven by a passion for hard work, dedication, and a commitment to doing things right. With a legacy of success and a bright future ahead, the company remains a testament to the power of family values and true craftsmanship.
