About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World Addresses Hispanic Youth on the Dangers of Fentanyl

In an effort to correct the misinformation spread over the years about opioids, drug prevention education continues to seek to save lives with the truth.

-- In a vital effort to combat the ongoing fentanyl crisis, Thalia Ghiglia, faith liaison for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World DC Chapter, delivered presentation to Hispanic youth at a local recreation center in conjunction with local law enforcement making them aware of the dangers of fentanyl and opioids. The young attendees were empowered and equipped with facts to help them make informed decisions.

During the event, Ms. Ghiglia explained how nearly all street drugs can be laced with fentanyl, often without the buyer’s knowledge. She emphasized why fentanyl is particularly dangerous and shared alarming statistics about its potency and prevalence in counterfeit opioid painkillers.

Ms. Ghiglia emphasized, “It’s important that our young people, and their parents, understand the dangers that are present at school, on the street, and online when it comes to fake opioid painkiller pills. In the United States, there is a 50% chance that a fake painkiller will contain enough fentanyl to be deadly. Everyone needs to know about this. There are still plenty of people who have not even heard of fentanyl. We want to make sure they don’t find out the hard way.”

This initiative from the Foundation for a Drug-Free World comes as the United States continues to grapple with a devastating drug epidemic. Overdose deaths remain a leading cause of death in the country, behind heart disease and cancer. The majority of these deaths are attributed to fentanyl. However, there is encouraging news: provisional data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggests a 16.9% decrease in overdose deaths for 2024, with final figures to be confirmed later this year. This decrease is being celebrated by drug prevention groups, law enforcement, and healthcare professionals as a positive sign of progress.

Due to the seriousness of the epidemic, Purdue Pharmaceuticals recently settled lawsuits from state attorneys general worth more than $7 billion for their involvement in the addiction crisis.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World DC Chapter has played an active role in educating people about this problem through widespread community outreach and education. Their team has staffed informational booths at events ranging from professional athletes’ sports camps to after-school programs, distributing educational materials and raising awareness about fentanyl’s dangers.

About the company: The Foundation for a Drug-Free World offers its Truth About Drugs materials, including booklets on 13 drugs, free of charge to anyone interested. Information on downloading free booklets, accessing videos, and ordering other educational materials is available at www.drugfreeworld.org. The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit, international drug education program sponsored by the Church of Scientology and Scientologists around the world.
