A substantial Digital Divide exists in parts of the United States. Satellites are too expensive to solve this problem.

AVEALTO Limited, a UK-based company, was formed to design, build and operate a fleet of high-altitude Wireless Infrastructure Platform vehicles (“WIPS”), also often called High Altitude Platforms (“HAPS”), which are designed provide telecom and internet capacity in unserved and underserved regions in order to help close the Digital Divide worldwide.

The “Digital Divide” is not just a problem for less developed countries.  The United States has many areas that are served only via expensive and low quality telecom satellites and the majority of the people living in these regions do not have routine access to internet.

The states of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Colorado all have large regions with no terrestrial telecommunications links.   In the Eastern part of the United States, large portions of West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee also lack service.

AVEALTO has formed a new subsidiary, AVEALTO AMERICAS, to begin working with future telecom operator customers in the US and to begin discussions with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in relation to regulatory requirements.

This new subsidiary is expected to be the operating entity for the high altitude Wireless Infrastructure Platform vehicles that will provide wholesale infrastructure capacity to US based telecom operators that want to open services in unserved and underserved regions.

In regions now served only via telecommunication satellites, AVEALTO Wireless Infrastructure capacity is expected  be significantly lower in cost than LEO, MEO or GEO satellites and provide a higher quality of service (lower latency, higher availability and lower bit error rate). 

The AVEALTO Wireless Infrastructure Platform vehicles are Net Zero and the associated  ground terminals use significantly less electrical power than satellite terminals.

This disruptive technology could help to fully close the Digital Divide in the United States.
