About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

GemiGPT Launches Green GPT Compute Pilot in Africa, Advancing the Decentralization of AI Power

-- Decentralized AI infrastructure platform GemiGPT has announced the deployment of the first green-energy-powered GPT compute network of the world in the Sahara region of Africa. Now in its pilot phase, the project marks a major milestone in decentralizing large language model infrastructure while reducing the carbon footprint of AI computation. Built on the proprietary GPT-NEXUS distributed engine of GemiGPT, the network enables low-latency, low-carbon, and privacy-preserving compute scheduling without reliance on centralized data centers.

To support global developer participation, GemiGPT has simultaneously opened early access to its GPT compute API. Developers can now apply to test a range of decentralized AI use cases—from intelligent assistants to NFT generators and AI-based trading modules—ushering in what the platform calls the “democratization of AI capabilities.”

“We do not believe AI should live solely on the servers of tech giants,” said Ethan Calloway, GemiGPT founder and former OpenAI researcher. “Real artificial intelligence must belong to developers and innovators across the globe.”

The Sahara pilot uses solar-powered systems to run the GPT-NEXUS compute scheduler of GemiGPT alongside its Flow-Vault energy engine. Tasks such as model inference or fine-tuning are automatically split into microtasks and distributed across multiple edge nodes based on available energy and computational load. This significantly reduces both emissions and the data vulnerabilities typically associated with centralized compute environments.

Security and data integrity are managed through GPT-SAFE, the zero-trust architecture of GemiGPT, which enables encrypted data sharding, privacy-preserving sandboxes, and trusted execution for sensitive operations.

The pilot introduces several test-phase tools: a GPT dialogue and language processing API (Beta), the NFT generator of GemiGPT, a custom AI assistant builder (Beta), and a smart contract inference module set to launch soon.

In a further innovation, GemiGPT incorporates an AI-DAO governance system, where GPT nodes are empowered to participate in decentralized governance. This includes intelligent proposal filtering, collaboration intent detection, and autonomous decision-making support—enabling a more adaptive and participatory Web3 governance model.

As AI services expand globally, centralized infrastructure faces growing constraints—rising costs, security risks, and concentrated control. The distributed model of GemiGPT, driven by renewable energy and governed by an AI-native DAO, positions itself as a next-generation alternative.

By merging sustainability, open access, and secure compute distribution, GemiGPT offers a scalable framework for decentralized AI—redefining how GPT infrastructure is deployed and governed.
